Neglect

so many secrets

litter the pavement

brittle brown serrated maple leaves

crunch

wireless humming

undetectable sound

still, the earth turns daily in vain

the moon, waxes and wanes

unnumbered stars

dare to swerve from the orbit

where mermaids play

years like the water’s rolling storm

in the sky you live

under the waves

.

all these words

we never say to each other

the unsent text messages

the caressing garden

that stings with pain

and does not yield flowers

.

no one passes in the street

not even a wandering drunkard

processions of shadows

dancing the opposite

and the same

we are not as foreign

or apart

as you seem to think.

“To bread I do not ask to teach me
but only not to lack during every day of life.
I don’t know anything about light, from where
it comes nor where it goes,
I only want the light to light up,
I do not ask to the night
explanations,
I wait for it and it envelops me,
And so you, bread and light
And shadow are”

Pablo Neruda

I agree, really agree. You bring it home nicely friend. The use of metaphors is very interesting and spot on in todays world.
