The “Matrix” is the plate where a printmaking work is made and used for printmaking. It can be a woodcut, lino, collagraph, etching, aquatint, drypoint and many more. The matrix is commonly not shown at all and usually shelved somewhere. As a printmaking teacher I like to be able to show the process of making a print.
