I have been working on this woodcut over the holidays. I recently hand coloured it in. I can download the print in itself for you to see the difference. This was printed on my own press this week. Coloured with ink.

Very nice piece… The coloration of many colors is well overlaid, and there are numerous texture qualities that I enjoy. The subjects are curious, too… Very good overall composition!

  • Thank you Robert, I love the woodcuts but I also love to paint them in….sometimes I feel like Im bordering on crafty, but then I don’t suppose Margaret Preston ever thought that…she inspires me. Thanks for your comments, you are a printmaker so that means a lot to me.

Wow that is an amazing woodcut! You r brilliant, awesome colour job too! :D

  • Do you think so bites, gosh you stare at something for so long. I mean you cut away from this plate of wood for what seems like yonks! Then you paint it and after a while it all seems so….I dont know….ordinary. I have spent the entire holidays carving this piece, printing, then some more carving…so I hope people like it. I will take a picture of the plate and put it in the picture to the side later.

  • Billy your printmaking skills are beyond ordinary! You ave a natural tallent and no way could a crafter even comprehend the complexity of your work!

  • Now I just love you, see how easy it is to make me love you. Thanks bites…you are lovely.

very nice. I like this one. are you getting a head start for school

  • Well, I have done three these holidays, don’t think they will be allowed as work for next year. Plus, next year I want to learn more about digital print and etching. I need more information…..I still don’t know whether to major in printmaking or do my minor in painting. When do we have to decide?

Looks great! Just wondering, do you end up carving your hands in the process of wood cutting?

  • The answer is a BIG Yes, I try to remember to wear gloves….but I always hurt myself….

    – Belinda "BillyLee" NYE (Printmaker)

  • The reason I asked is beacuse I tried it years ago and I remember carving my hands as much as the wood. I also remember the looks on people’s faces the following day in the office and comments like “you missed your wrists by a little” :)

  • Ha ha, yes, not to mention having black finger nails. Sometimes my fingers are all bandaged up and the ones that are not bandaged up are black, nasty black! I feel like wearing a t.shirt and saying “I am a printmaker, exucse my fingers” but that would really make people stare!
