Pink Lady - Oils on Fabric Art by Belinda "BillyLee" NYE (Printmaker)

Mixed Media, finished off with OIL painting.
(This painting has been redone in 2011, changed and made lighter. I think it looks better).

Follow the link for more information

First I started with fabric, which I had to adhere to a frame and rabbit skin glue the ground. Then I painted with acrylics. (See examples on side)

After which I painted over with oils. At this stage the painting is finished. It is my last painting for assessement which finishes off my diploma.

Any suggestions on the finaly colours would be good as not sure whether to change back ground or keep colours as is. Belinda (background has now been altered by toning down).

I have never seen painting on fabric as brilliantly done and as intricate as your work! It’s very interesting. I enjoy the picture on the side of the work in process too. :)

  • Thanks Sharon, still not sure of the colours??? Not sure whether to make it green, blue, keep it off white. Its a hard one. I get a feeling of not being finished but am stuck as to where to go from here. What do you think?

hmmmm, I keep looking at it and like the sort of camouflage effects as it is right now, but then I like how you did the raven woman painting that’s sitting to your right in the picture over on the right. The raven woman really pops out from the busy floral background. BUT with that being said, the way this woman blends in is really unique and eye-catching. Maybe if you did something very dramatic with only with her eyes?

  • What if I toned down the right of the girl like I have the left. Which would mean darkening the motifs on the right. Just wandering?

The close up shot shows the eyes better and they ARE already pretty and dramatic. :)

  • Thanks Sharon, maybe then its finished! I mean it started and then finally this is where it lands. I am so used to having things shout out at you, perhaps this is another way to go. SUttle and blending in , camouflage as you said. Will see where it goes. I have spent hours and hours going over this. I am going to leave it be. Thanks for helping me sort that out in my head! B

I have redone it by toning down the white around her face…this should look better and easier to the eye. I found myself getting lost before.

Looks good to me as it is. If it were mine, I think I’d ezxtend the white and the red leaves out of the woman, and some of the leaves on the outside of her a bit inside so as to hide her a little more. But this is your painting! So you do it your way!

  • I think I know what you mean? Do you think I could perhaps do it in Photoshop first and see what that would look like. My eyes have a hard time seeing her now. I found her difficult to paint…too busy for my mind I think. Makes me dizzy..but will think about doing that. I thank you for your thoughts, I wanted to hear what the other artists think and would do. So thanks . BillyLee
