Butterfly Lady by

This one of my prints that I have previously uploaded but this one is handpainted with watercolour and pastels. I have been a little down and unable to create, so I thought I would hand paint…and this is the result. I love printmaking because I can take all the prints and individually paint them to suit my mood. Can’t wait to see what this looks like on my portfolio page.

Billy if this is a self portrait then it captures you perfectly……for someone who has been pretty blue your self concious depicts the opposite……beautiful work. Mel

  • No , its not me Mel, I used to do photography so I have a lot of girls portraits, I have them so I turned this one into a woodcut print. So she is carved out of wood, then inked up and printed. Then I handpainted and coloured her up a bit today. She has more depth now I think. I put pastel on her face and watercolour on the pinks. Glad you like it. I am still negging out but this helps. B

(sigh) Oh what a horrible artist you are!

    LOL LOL LOL LOL

    Horribly great!

  • Ha ha, yes, slowly crawling out from under my rock. Did some more more prints today with different techniques, looks alright. Oh and I gave some lessons today on the press for a friend. Yes, climbing out of dark dirty hole , inspiration comes back when I think colours.

this is wonderful andyou are so right about printmaking’s versatility.

  • Thanks Marion, I would never have thought to rub pastel into a print but the effect on black ink was great and the watercolour makes it pop. I put pastel in the eyes and face and watercolour on the buttleflies and tweaked it up a bit on the computer end. But it looks good in my studio. It was missing substance and now it can be framed and who knows.

Ooh I want lessons! Or do I? Some guy, at one point, offered me a silk screening table (or whatever it’s called) and various equipment, but, I had zero clue what to do with it. He just goes “It’s easy! Just do it. I thought you were an artist?” So, that was annoying. I left it with him.

  • Yes, I like your work. I wish you lived nearby so we could have a lesson or two on painting. Sorry to delete some of your work. Its only two a day. Keep putting them into the group. We love them.
