This is a reduction lino cut done with two blocks. One lays down the black and the other the orange. The white part is cut out completely so that it remains white. It takes a while to get your head around the process and it can be a hit or miss process in the printing stage.

In this edition I did 20 and this is the only one I approve of. People don’t often see the work that goes into printmaking and some treat it like a craft…but I find it the most difficult of all art mediums, not only do you have to come up with the concept and composition but you have to get your head into how you are going to do it; The processes are long but the rewards are beautiful.

BillyLee, what a great image! Can you tell us more about your inspiration – is it from your early days? I’ve been away so long, and this is a big variation from your women in the fields works. How did you make this print?

Oops! You must have been typing in the details while I was commenting. Okay, so now I have the information. Thanks.

  • Thats too funny, I was answering you question when you were thinking of it. Its a lino cut, then we had a workshop on Monday and I learnt how to cut another lino cut and to make a reduction print for another colour. I could then make another one for a third colour…….or I could do another one.

This is me in Paris, my favorite place in the world. I still have that dress up in the cupboard, would be too scared to try it on though. Hey maybe I could cut it up and work it into a print.
    Ahhhhh the wheels are turning!

Oh I love this! Look at the absolute bliss on your face, having all the time in the world in such a beautiful city……this makes all kinds of delicious emotions swirl around me. It brings up memories of myself in my favourite city, Brussels, where I’ll again be in four short weeks….and I hope I have this delight written on my face! Lovely work, as always, Billy.

  • Hey Bell, you can see all that huh! Wow, you are so right….I can actually remember the sun shining down on me writing a postcard to Australia saying How amazing Paris was. I was also in love at the time….and I ended up marrying him! Oh to go back, this is as close as I’ll get. You can see all are spot on my friend! Very insightful!
