This is a “Reduction Woodcut Print”, so its taken me lots of cutting of the wood to get it to this point. Printing over the top of the print about three times. This is the final result today.

I am in the process of downloading the wood that I cut this print out of so you can get an idea on how it works.

First you cut into the wood, keep printing what you have, then see where you need to cut more. It has taken me three weeks and three sessions in the print room to get to this point. This is one of about 20 prints, all of them individual and slightly different then the other.

Thanks for looking…Billy

BillyLee, this is a wonderful final result! Woodblock prints are just so exciting, and this says it all – a great visual example of why I love them so much. You’ve done this technique true justice. I love the textural quality that you’ve maintained, and the way you use the space, placing the figure to one side, giving room for her surroundings and allowing them to breathe around her. Really interesting variation in direction of the various areas, or planes.

Thanks Elaine, I did so many cool ones, I might download another one at a later date, but some of them are really fabulous, one I did in dark green and white with the black, it has so much more impact…would love to show you, might upload it tomorrow and put it on this page. Billy..yes, will do that tomorrow. THanks for your constructive comments, I like it when someone who knows about it comments to me, it means a lot to me that you understand the process and then like it. Thanks Elaine. Billy

Brilliant print, BillyLee!! Lino and cardboard are hard enough to cut with finesse, and you have achieved an incredible result in wood!!! Haven’t ever tried wood myself, and don’t think I will…..:-)

The fanciful intricacies of the hair and how they merge into the rest of the piece are my personal favorite!
