Amy's Travels - Pastels
This is a pastel drawing of AmyLee, She is currently traveling around Australia…so I called it Amy’s Travels.. (its not an Australian landscape though, I just made up the landscape from my head…..)
This is an A1 Size Pastel. Its my first complete pastel, usually I do watercolour and ink as well. I found the pastels a challenge. I only hope I get better at it. I love the colour though…its been fun.
I will make more improvements on this pastel. For now this is it…and when I am completely finished I will just reload it here. Thank you Belinda

BillyLee, which artist really ever considers their work to be perfect! To the viewer it is fantastic – we are not seeing what you expect to do to “complete” the work. What we see is something very beautiful and very skillfully executed. I particularly love the “conversation” between the colours of the foreground flowers and that dramatic sky. It’s a bold and rhythmical work, filled with energy and life.
Belinda "Billy... replied
Gosh Elaine, thank you for your inspiring and motivating comment, it was truly encouraging and I am going to do another one. Thank you.Billy…Oh, P.S. My first day back in the printing room at school, what can you tell me about prints that are bled out…or what is the word, when they have no border. Billy

Hello BillyLee,
sorry I didn’t get back to you, I have been away painting. Well done on tackling the figure in the forground. It’s a strong design and you have created alot of depth in the work. Awesome
Best wishes

I like how you got such thin lines interspersed with the swaths of color. Most pastel work I’ve seen (ok maybe not really that much) is fields of color next to fields of color, with any detail only implied. I never knew you could get such finery with that medium. Intriguing and fun!
Belinda "Billy... replied
Thanks Anthony, I think its because I originally did the lines and than when I went over it, I tried to get rid of the field lines but they came through….now that you mention it , well it is a nice effect…..Billy

I bought the most beautiful book yesterday… Dreamtime by Ainsley Roberts.. he has all these figures in landscapes and I thought of you straight away. I really like this series of yours, if you can get some of his works to look at do it – you’ll like it me thinks. Keep it up girly… great works!
Belinda "Billy... replied
Dear Carmen, boy am I glad to hear from you! Thanks for that tip[....Ainsley Roberts, I will have to look into it. I am doing a new drawing and dang it, if I can’t do a drawing without a figure or face. I even tried and am yet doing another person in a landscape. Its something I cant seem to break. But thanks for this tip and I will look it up…..thanks. B

Thanks Amy, well you know how it is to draw, I can’t do it exactly like some people and I know your face is longer but you inspired me and every one says how beautiful you are. Hey, wait to you see the etching/aquatint which I should download soon, its of the same peice but its amazing. YOu will love it. Billy
Amy-lee Foley
Aww i wasnt picking on ya! Me and my cousin look so alike, and yep i know how hard it can be to draw…i cant draw portraits at all! The only one iv ever done that has looked like the person i actually drew, was a pic i copied out of a magazine of Bert Newton! haha
Awsome i cant wait to see it!
