"Dreaming of Life" Aqautint Etching

This is my “Supreme” 2008 Aquatint Etching! Well, it is a copper plate etching, which has been aquatinted over and over and over again, until at last, its love finally! This is my daughter, she is sleeping and dreaming…her soul is at peace as she falls into a deep sleep.

This is my third copper plate aquatint etching for the year….they are all 30×30 plates on A2 cream University paper. This one is my favorite though. I have printed up 10 of this edition, and can’t wait to print up some more. I am absolutely wrapped in this one. I hope you like it to, if you have any questions about etching or aqautinting please ask me, I would sleep in the print room and breath in the ink and ferric acid every day if I could! But we all have to go home and shower some times!

    Thanks Scott, some people don’t realize how much work goes into to a copper plate and how long it takes to etch. This one is one I love also, I am just finishing another one that I am putting up soon. The patience one has to have in the etching process is NOT ME at all, but I love it so much.     Oh my God Paul, you have made me so happy, because I love Klimt and I really like Japanese art. I mean I bought that giant Klimt book for Christmas for $300. Wow, so that is indeed a compliment for me. Did I tell you this is my daughter Jade. Plus, I have this exact print in a competition this October. Hope the judges like it and it reminds them of Klimt. Still your comment was a good enough prize for me.

    Hi Billy- I saw this etching and immediately had to join redbubble! I am doing etching at the moment at school and have used you as an artist model, I just love your work.. especially have you blend people with nature – this is my theme in my artwork at school. Klimt and Hundertwasser are also my favourite artists:) Please would you advise me in how to do such amazing work!     Dear Maddy, that is a wonderful compliment. This etching has the most hits out of all of my art. I must enter it in a competition this year. In fact you just convinced me to enter it in Works on Paper mornington this year. Thanks. Well, I did have a love of etching. I too am at school and finishing up with painting this year. Frankston College. I bought my own press and endevour to teach printmaking.

    Thanks Mollypop, I have been holding on to this print for a year now and am thinking of putting it in a show this coming January. I don’t want to over or under price it, so have been thinking about this print a lot today. Its my favorite also. Did you see I did it in a painting also.     I’ve been following your artistic journey & I must say you have a very strong body of work, particularly your prints…well done! It’s just great to hear your story.

    I read that you have your own press at home so I thought I might pick your brains on what to look for as I’m thinking of purchasing one…... something small, affordable to use at home & would greatly appreciate any words of wisdom about what to look for & what to avoid. As I’m just starting back into it again, I can’t think expensive but I need something that can print OK. Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

    My friend Simone bought what you call a Desk top print, I think it Swedish or something. But it came in a box and her husband set it up on her work bench and as far as I know she has been printing away successfully. Go to ETzy.com and search through printers pages and some of them show you their press. I am a firm believer that you can print in so many ways. Its not fully neccessary to have a giant press.

    I just finished a woodcut plate and I want to print it but I’ve surrounded my press with over a dozen frames and I cannot move in what was the print room, until I minored in Painting and now its just a giant mess of canvases,done and not done. Good grief! Will let you know when I print it. B
