OK, I know there’s a gazillion pier pictures out there…
So this makes a gazillion-and-one!

Taken at Flagler Beach, 45 mins south of Daytona, Florida.
Don’t know how many times it’s been knocked down into the sea by storms, but the people of Flagler like to fish and they need a pier to fish from and so they build it back up again even stronger than it was.
But for the mo, tide`s out, fish are snappin’…
No pressure…

Canon 5D MkI, 16-35mm, 3 bracketed shots put together and tone mapped in Photomatix.

Thanx for lookin!

You can almost see the next generation of strengthening applied to the pier BB. If they like to fish, then add another couple of supports. This has led to a myriad of planks placed at a multitude of angles as they pull the eye through the perspective like a fizzing firework, headed with a central point of destination but taking an unco-ordinated and random route to get there.

the textures in the front two legs is amazingly replicated, as though you could reach out and run your hands along each crack and crevice whilst the sound of the tde just graces the ears from a distance.

the foreground is nicely represented by the small island of sand with small leftover leg but it’s the superb lighting under the pier and the killer blue sky with strategically placed cotton wool balled fluffy clouds that really bring this shot together.

  • Stuart? I swear next time I post I’m gonna let you do the description.
Cause you see stuff in my work in a way that I haven’t even realized myself, and reading what you wrote here, I definitely WANT everyone to see those things too.

We need to bear in mind that it is not the art alone that inspires, but our interpretation.
Jeeze I wish everyone would look as deeply and as appreciative as you.

And if yer up for some PR work (and don’t mind not getting paid for it:-), just drop me a line!
And cheers for the fave mate!!

HDR sure does bring out the details well! Love that the pier keeps being rebuilt….I had to google map it too….

  • Mel, if you Google mapped it you’d realize how boring the shoreline is around Flagler… all the cool stuff is in the surrounding jungle!
But the area around the pier, including the tacky souvenir shops that made me fall in love with the location in the first place, is brimming with photo ops.
Pity the heat makes me so farken lazy…:-)

Wonderful details and colours, love the textures and clarity of the barnacles on the two posts in the foreground. Great coastal image billy!

  • Cheers Trish!
For me the barnacles and the colors are the two main elements that make this work, so thanx for mentioning…

Love the angles and lines and the colors are beautiful & vibrant. Nice one, Billy :)

  • Hiya Jen!
I’m always in awe over the way HDR and Photomatix brings out the full dynamic of the colors, AND brings a surreal depth into the mix.
    Thanks for the appreciation!
