This is OJ. Alas, no longer with us as he passed away very young. Here his eyes were just changeing color and I thought I’d try to get a pose out of him. Trouble was keeping him awake long enough to get a shot. Seconds after taking this, he slumped down into the jar, deep in little kitty dreamland. It wasn’t even easy getting him out !
I did this on film… Fuji Reala 100 ISO… with a homemade softbox which was my first venture into `studio’ flash. As a result, there were reflections all over the gass and especially on the neck of the jar which totally hid OJ`s fur. So I scanned the neg and cloned over the reflections with the few bits of fur that were visible through the glass in PS6. I aslo took advantage of Photoshop to adjust colors and levels till I was OK with his contrast against the background. It was pretty much my first delve into Photoshop and I learned lots about cloning, selecting, feathering and so much else through this… so not only does the nostalgia pertain to the subject, but to the processing as well.
Please have a look at Karina’s lovely translation in pastels :-))
Thanks so much for looking :-)

Was he your kitten before he passed away?
OJ, what a cutie! Sorry he passed….
What an adorable shot BB!
I like the way the background works w/his eye color. The candy coloz add great POP to this image. Sorry to hear he didn’t make it though.
First Mr Hazelnut Praline Eyes now this little cutie… what are you trying to do to a girl Bill??
I love how you have captured Oj’s inate kitten cheekiness and curiousness. I can almost here him saying “What?? You leave these brightly coloured goodies just lying around and expect me NOT to jump on in here?” A lovely way to remember this cute little man…
great image BB!!
