Sanibel
This one’s for Karen ... thanks for reminding me of the awesome beachcombing on Sanibel Island. Drfitwood stark against the white sand melting into that amazing turquoise gulf… nothing around for miles except the egrets…
and yeah, I’ve had a few… but then again, too few to mention…

Thanks Tots!
Anything you find to like about one of my pics makes my day.
That textured foreground is just the amazing Sanibel combination of driftwood and sand… kinda does its own Photoshop thing!

Tracey Mac
You should so do more of these wonderful peaceful images….......
Love the bird flapping away….....gorgeous colours and I just want to be there, like a vision of my happy place come to life…..........
I guess we all need a happy place, so cool to see yours BB!!
( I have another vision in my head of you in those old fashioned shorts/beachwear laying back on the sand lol )
Dream on! xxx
billyboy replied
Tracey, beachware is not necessary on Sanibel… unless that guy in the sailboat’s got like REALLY powerful bonoculars… which is why it`s a happy place for so many. Most of whom probably get arrested for indecent exposure.
But yeah, outside my Sanctuary, this place is pretty much a happy place for me… conjures up lots of sweet moments. Seems there was so much time to enjoy happy places back then.
Thanx for the suggestion… yeah, maybe I should do more like this… and for the fav!!

Elana Bailey
Where is Sanibel Island? It looks a magical place. Stunning shot and capture. Well done.
billyboy replied
Hi Elana!
Sanibel is on the southwest coast of Florida on the Gulf of Mexico, about the same level as Lake Okeechobee… and it is turly magical. such fine grained white sand backed by strips of woodland and dotted with awesome driftwood sculptures. Very little commercial activity except a couple of rustic pizza joints and few stores.
And the coolest thing about Sanibel is that the morning after one of the typical midsummer T-storms over the gulf, beachcombing for shells is to die for. You should def check it out!
Thanx for the compliment!
Marion Cullen
This image leaves me with completely conflicting feelings, on the one hand the sunlight and azure sea are beckoning and inviting, & on the other, the brooding clouds and crows lend it a slightly ominous air, as if something is brewing…calm before the storm type of thing.
Nice work BB.
billyboy replied
Thank you SO much for feeling that vibe Marion.
It`s what I love about Florida in the summer months. There`s always the promise you might get a massive thunderstorm… and I mean the kind where the lighting momentarily blinds you and thunder that actually hurts your ears slams you at exactly the same time as the flash, and you can smell the ozone made by the massive discharge. You don`t want to be out in the open when it hits, but you just run for the car and enjoy the show. Doesn`t get much better than that!!!

Kinda blows my mind what you could do with film Billy. All the moments you seem to capture so easy wherever you are and bring to us with such depth and story.. always story even if you are not doing collage.. It is in your blood.. your stories.. Beautiful tones and the pink.. I am glad I saw that.. your layers of life.. xo
billyboy replied
So… how on earth did you know this was done on film???
I guess if we`re expanding there is always a story. That guy on the sailboat out in the distance (you can almost make it out inthe large view) also has a story of his own, sailing into the setting sun… if you`ve got your camera with you, your pictures tell stories. It`s not rocket science. Then again, I was a scientist many, many years ago…
And jeeze lady, you got a thing about pink or somethin?!
Thanks for the fav… yer such a diamond!
xox
Jason Moses
I’m sure we’ve all had a few egrets. Bill =)
I agree with Marion about those dudes looking like harbingers of doom. Love the shot, and I can see the sailboat even on small view… maybe not the occupants, though.
billyboy replied
Jase, ya just need bigger binoculars!!
Thanks for feeling the harbingers… and these egrets of yours… they got names??
BAD-HARVEST

LOL, I was going to ask you how you treated this photo to give it such a sense of “fullness” but, after reading your replies to omments below, I don’t think I need to ask now – you didn’t really do anything other than add the crows, did you, Bill? It’s a wonderful vista – rich zure sea, gleaming white sand enhanced by the driftwood. It looks very peaceful, a place for reflection, contemplation, dreaming, and sheer chillin’ out but, i wouldn’t be sleeping on that beach, not with those storm clouds in the sky – as Marion says, the crows and storm clouds add a sense of the ominous to it. I love your framing and perspecticve, they make this photo almost real enough to reach and touch.
billyboy replied
Hey Jannie!!
I was starting to seriously worry you weren’t gonna give me your take on this… like it’s not often you fav and don’t comment (cheers for the fav btw!)...
Anyways, glad ya did cause I like that you got the ominous. Sort of rainclouds in heaven kinda thing. And I so appreciate that you like the perspective and framing, and that you feel you could reach out and touch it… what an amazing thing to say!
In actuality, I’ve never really been scared of being on a beach with an approaching storm, unless the lightning starts to get close. Having said that, the worst thing you can do at Sanibel during July or August is stay out there with NO clouds. It must have to do with the reflective properties of the white sand or something, but I have NEVER gotten sunburnt quicker than on Sanibel beach taking photos… and that was with LOTS of sunscreen! When I got back to my mom’s that evening she almost mistook me for a big-ass lobster and started boiling the water!!
Thanks for comin thru for yer BB!
xo
ps: Add crows? Me???
janniev
First your P.S.: Yeah, you.
I needed to think – that’s wht those faint soggy noises you heard were. The ominousness was the first thing which struck me because the clouds are the first thing you see, then the crows, and the driftwood. The azure sea is all tied in with the driftwood, like it’s cradled by the driftwood. I also love thunderstorms and lightning – one day, I’ll tell you about a huge one which occurred not long after we shifted into this place.
Yeah, the white sand reflects so much light just about anybody would get sunburnt even if they had the strongest sunscreen available on, and because you’re blonde you probably burn very easily!!!!!!
You’re welcome, it just took a bit longer than usual.

WOW…what a beautiful shot…this really exists??? I see a fantasy, dreamland, utopia… what an awesome piece this is!!! Well done :-)
billyboy replied
Hey Dawn!
Yeah, the cool thing about Sanibiel is that it`s so totally untouched… the only pollution around is the driftwood. And during the times I was blessed to have been there, there wasn`t another person in sight! Can`t imagine why… it`s not like nobody knows about it. Maybe I was the only one stoopid enough to go out in 110 degrees and 97% humidity to take pictures of sun bleached wood!
Glad I did though, and yer such a diamond for faving this!!

Fabulous shot bb … gorgeous turquoise water and great capture of that Egret :)
Birgitta
Ahhhh….how gorgeous. :) The dynamics between that bird & the
sky have me completely. Brave of you to “vertical it” too! I think it
adds depth. I want to tell you that I really appreciate you. :) Few
people (on any site) take the time, accurate eye, well written thoughts
and express them so earnestly (and painstakingly!) as you do.
It does not go unoticed or unappreciated!
-Lilith-
Well, you have more than enough fans, Bill…. :-)
But this is a stunning image! Love it.

Will be up around the northern gulf cost in about a week… have an old friend that’s got a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a one-horse town called Sopchoppy in the panhandle. Don’t know if the beaches are white as this, I’ll post a pic if I get any good ones. Might need a tripod if the moonshine’s as good as he says it is…
And thanks for the fav!!!
