Notre Dame
This is the Basilique de Notre Dame in Montreal which is by far the most beautiful place I have ever been in my life.
It was impossible to get a shot without visitors so i had to clone ‘em all out… which took a bit of time, but it wouldn’t have had the same impact otherwise.
EOS 5D, 16mm, f5,6, ISO 800, 1/6 sec handheld. Yeah, I held my breath!
Notre Dame belongs to the following groups:
Architectural Photography, Historic Churches and Nirvana Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

TOOK MY BREATH AWAY! STUNNING IMAGE!
cdwork
Absolutely awesome- How cool to be able to see this in person! Fantastic image
C Hummel
I agree, it is breathtaking and so is the photo and cloning work you have done. Excellent.
Angela Stewart
Wow, what a masterpiece…both the architecture and the image!
Barbara Morrison
Amazing place!

Wow, that’s awesome, Bill. What a magnificent church. You’ve taken a wonderful photo and your cloning is flawless. Thank yiu for sharing such amazing beauty.
billyboy replied
Thanks Jan. Don`t know if my wife would agree about the cloning though… she was sitting right there in the front row on the aisle!
Johanne Brunet
This is incredibly beautiful! The colours and details are amazing. I like the light that gives a quiet and serene atmosphere, and to think that you did this without a tripod is astonishing. Great work!
billyboy replied
Thanks Johanne, it astonished me too. I took an awesome number of shots on there, and this was the one that had the least number of visitors and was also the sharpest. I think God was visiting that day himself cause I couldn`t put that good fortune down to anything else!
Mel Brackstone
Awesome place! Gotta love that wide angle, huh? You’ve captured such fab detail, and wonderful colours, Bill. Well done on the cloning, must have been a hell of a pain in da butt to do, but I agree that the impact is there without them
billyboy replied
Mel, the resolving capability of that lens is enormous when you consider that in spite of the wide andgle I was able to crop to the above detail. I`ve hardly taken that lens off since I got it… which is mainly down to how blown away I was with your results. So thanks for finally showing me how to blow my cash on something that`s not bad for my health!
Paola Jofre
OMG!!!! Wow!!!....incredilbe detail….just beautiful…..can’t even tell you have cloned…brilliant job editing Billy!!! :)...maybe i should make the 4hour trip out there :)
billyboy replied
Paola, you`re only 4 hours away? What on earth are you waiting for??
Heather Rivet...
speechless
billyboy replied
Sweet of you to fav this Heather… and for being speechless in church!
Tania Rose

My main reason for wanting to visit Canada – looks such an amazing building
Stuart Chapman
A building I have only ever seen from the outside, and now after viewing this that is something I now hold with a degree of regret.
Not only is this splendid in its architecture and design but your treatment in catching the light (which should come as no surprise if you manage it so well after a few beverages) is nothing short of jaw droppingly gorgeous.
Not just the obvious light either, the pew edges are lit and hold the light so well and accompany the bright blue entrance to the shot with a gentle hand before the opening up of the altar to show off the grand spleandour of it all.
Cloning people out – Impressive, painstainkinly impressive – I would have gone for the easier option of scaring people and threatening them with a rusty tripod until I had a clear shot. Your editing skills are as honed and profilic as those of your photographic capturing abilities.
billyboy replied
Stuart, thanks so much for taking such an awesome interest in this. The reason this shot worked is mainly down to the lighting engineers and the architechts who worked together to get such a perfect balance of natural and artificial light. It hits you like a sledge hammer as soon as you enter this stunning place. With my shot of Bruges (too cool that you linked to that!), there was lots more work to do on levels… here it just fell into place.
As for the beverage thing, for the Bruges shot I did have a brick wall to rest the camera on… so this being handheld I was lucky I`d been a good boy the night before.
Again many thanks, I really appreciate your compliments and in depth feedback!
clarkey
Well, if you need to please Bev, you cold always do it again, just don’t clone her out. then print it off and present it to her with a flourish! I’m sure she’d forgive you. :-))
Mel Brackstone
lol at blowing cash on something that’s not bad for your health :D I must admit the only reason I remove that lens is to put the 14mm on :Þ
Jason Moses
Wow! That place could ornate a man to death. Stunning shot, Bill.
Nodur Daym – say it the American way!
Tracey Mac
OMG….how did I not see this earlier?? This is totally stunning…..Michelangelo would be green with envy….this is truly divine in every sense of the word…..you bowl me over…..this is just too beautiful….
billyboy replied
Thanks Tracey! Seems that round the back of the alter there`s a chapel done up totally in carved wood that`s every bit as amazing. I learned about it too late, but it`s def a good reason to go back. The church costs $5 admission… one of the best bargains I ever had!
clarkey
The details which show in your second pic are absolutely stunning, Bill. It almost makes me feel like I could reach out and touch it. The details are so exquisitely fine , it’s almost mind blowing to know that mankind built it. It’s awe-inspiring. I’ll never see it in person so I thank you for sharing it.
billyboy replied
Thanks for digging the detail shot Jan. I actually think it has more impact that the full view!
Patricia Montg...
What an amazing image! You and that wide angle have definitely become “one”. The lighting and amount of detail is mind-blowing for hand-held at 1/6 sec and I am duly impressed. The basilica’s architectural detail (all those columns, sculptures and gold gilding!) is remarkable when you think that this was probably built without any modern tools. I have not seen this basilica before so thanks for sharing with those of us that might night get to see it in person.
billyboy replied
Patricia, you sure know hgow to make a guy blush!
Thanks so much for declaring your deep appreciation for awesomely beautiful things on my post!
Rhonda Thomassen
That is the most gorgeous place I have ever seen. The detail is just amazing!
clarkey
It does in that it shows so much of the beauty of the very fine detail; and because, it’s a closer shot (zoom?), the lighting is also better, making it easier to see those details.
billyboy replied
It’s not a zoom shot jan, it’s actually a crop of the original posted shot that’s magnified here… that’s why i was so blown away that the lens managed to record so much detail from the wide angle shot. Awesome piece of gear!
Mohsen Bayramn...
wow! this is something…! love the way you compose it this way and your excellent use/control on light.
well done, BB!
billyboy replied
Thanks for the comment Mohsen, and for the fav!!
clarkey
That it’s not a zoom makes your lens a very awesome piece of gear indeed. How did you magnify it?
billyboy replied
Jan, I just set the crop tool without any values and cropped to the view I wanted. You can’t do miracles, and at 100% magnification, a cropped area this small looks a bit fuzzy. But this is at about 70%, so not bad resolution, yeah? Thanks for the interest!
Antanas
Very beautiful, great capture
Rose Moxon
wow!
billyboy replied
Hey Rose, cheers for the FAV!!

funkyfacestudio
What a magnificent place, the architecture is amazing, the colors, details and light are so beautiful. It must feel even more impressive being there in person ! fantastic shot Billy, nice work cloning the people out too !
billyboy replied
Cheers Lisa… it still blows me away every time I look back. And it was MASSIVELY impressive being there.
Here’s another shot that better shows the scope… just too many visitors to clone out here!
Thanks for the fav!!!
funkyfacestudio
Wow ! I don’t know the first thing about cloning people out but it doesn’t look easy. I would love to see this for myself, I think all of the details would keep me there for hours on end. To think of all the time, skill, effort ,planning and labor that went into the building of this is astounding, it makes me think of all the technology we have now and how we build such sterile looking buildings over night.
Paul Vanzella
wow – so love what you have achieved here… the colour and style of this piece is seriously outstanding…
: ))
Bev Woodman
This is awesome and wonderful work cloning the people out – you did a wonderful job. This image takes my breath away.
clarkey
The image just above makes really gives me a solid idea of the size and magnificence of this church. It is more than awesome,I simply don’t have a word in my vocabulary to do it justice. One fantastic shot, Bill.
Mechellerene
Oh… you know.
galagol
Bill congrats on this shot, your use of lightweight cameras with plastic lenses, and with very low resolution, strips away the formality of the image, and prevents the production of maximum detail. Instead of description, a sensation of place has been sought and, using the photographic baroque aesthetic as a compositional device, there is an attempt to image the “otherworld” qualities of the sites visited.
This body of work follows in the tradition of Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream, with its emotional anxiety, alienation and existential inner despair. Within this artwork the silence associated with images is broken by a high velocity intense visual pitch, the emotional and visual equivalent of a full, guttural scream.
billyboy replied
Galagol, I was wondering when someone would spot my use of a throw-away camera. And your astute powers of observation and appreciation of art is something I will always look up to with envy and respect.
But I seriously think you should lay off the absinthe… at least until you stop screaming!

OMG!!! This is just magnificent! I am speechless!

I think I just broke my favourite button
God but this is just so insanely beautiful BB. I have been sitting here for about ten minutes trying to think of a comment that does this justice. I can’t. I admit to being completely flummoxed and absolutely gobsmacked. If you don’t mind, I might just sit here for a few minutes more in silent awe and worship.
Thankyou… thankyou thankyou thankyou for showing me this beauty that, but for you, I never would have known existed in the world. xxx
billyboy replied
MC, we been missin ya bad lady!
Almost forgot the buzz I got off your sweet comments, so thanks for bringin’ it all surging back!
Yeah, this place is special… alas, the goose bumps you get on the back of your neck when you walk in is something I can’t show in a photo… so you just might have to get yer butt off to the Great White North to see it for yourself. And while you’re there, you could poke my new son in law (galagol) with your stick. And make sure you ge the point really sharp!
Thanks for the fav too… you’re such a gem!

Fantastic architectual capture Billy…they just don’t build them like they used to!

No words can express the beauty of this image. You did an incredible job cloning these people out… That’s no easy feat..
billyboy replied
Moxie, that took me a LONG time and I’m really happy you appreciate it.
But even this shot gives you little idea of how humble I stood within the beauty of this awesome place.
Thanx so much for stopping by!
