Dearly Beloved
As some of you will know, daughter Melanie was married to Arthur Gallucci in January. That was the civil wedding in Belgium which was an amazing event. But so was their church wedding which happened last August 16th in Montreal where they now live.
I wasn’t the official photographer (hey, Dad’s gotta take a break now and then to enjoy a wedding, yeah?), but I did take nearly 400 pictures which I’m now sorting through hoping to get about 30 or 40 decent ones covering our two weeks in Montreal before and during the event. Last time I did a JE with a link to the pictures and will probably do the same again when I’m done. But in the meantime I’ll upload a couple that I think best describe the emotion…
This one just came up by chance. The priest was busy at the alter during part of the ceremony, and Mel and Art happened to turn and smile when I had my camera handy… which was admittedly just about the whole time. 1/20 sec, f7.1, 16mm. Eglise de la Visitation, oldest church in Montreal. Best man, Art’s brother Joe, looks on.

beautiful shot,,, love the church,,, well done
billyboy replied
Cheers Wendy! And not only do they have beautiful churches in Montreal, you can get great espresso just about anywhere if you know enough Italians… so I know you`d love it there!
Barbara Morrison
Your daughter looks beautiful! Church is amazing.
billyboy replied
Thanks Barbara, she had a totally different look at the Brussels wedding, but here she looked stunning as well. Thought Art scrubbed up pretty well too!
Kimberly Palmer
just gorgeous…. can’t wait to see more!
billyboy replied
Kimmie, I don`t know how long that`s gonna take me to get the rest done and dusted… so bear with me. There will be a link too the rest in the fullness of time and I`ll shoot you a heads-up. Thanks for the comment!
Paul Louis Vil...
Great shot mate! I love that look of happiness in your daughters eyes! :D
billyboy replied
Thanks for noticing that paul… stayed with her pretty much all day long…
Marion Cullen
Gorgeous shot BB, just love the light.
billyboy replied
Marion, the light was totally gorgeous in that church… it just made the colors and the woodwork glow. They couldn`t have picked a more fitting place for a fairytale wedding. Thanks for stopping by!
Rhana Griffin
Ok, so first up Mel looks absolutely ravishing – I’m loving the whole hair down around her face look this time round. I can see that their few months of “pre-marriage” marriage (hey I have no idea what else to call it lol) have certainly agreed with them both. Beautiful models aside though, this is an awesome shot in and of itself. What a magnificent old church!!!
billyboy replied
Cheers Rhana. You`re so busy, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Dave Moilanen
Just fab BB!
billyboy replied
Thanks Dave… guppies will start breeding in Montreal before we know it!
RavenSoul
LOVE it and cannot wait to see the rest!
billyboy replied
Hey Vonne, thanks for Lovin’ it… I see you`ve got lots of new posts so I`ll be catching up with you soon as I can.
Angela Stewart
awww, what a beautiful couple they make! You’ve caught the lighting in here so perfectly Billy, and I’m in awe of that spectacular church! Mel looks stunning…you must have felt so proud that day. Can’t wait to see more shots!
billyboy replied
Angela, what a lovely comment. Everything that day was full of magic, and yeah, there was nobody prouder than Daddy BB. When she and Art walked into the reception, the band played Disney`s “When You Wish Upon a Star”... I swear to you, there wasn`t a dry eye in the house!
Shanina Conway
Wonderful shot BB, love the light and the church is magic and Mel is glowing;)
billyboy replied
Shanina, that glow is what was providing the awesome light. Well spotted!!
CATNIPMEOW
The reason I like this : NOT the typical wedding shot ! Love the way she is looking over her shoulder at her dear dad :)
The church is gorgeous as well….
billyboy replied
Thanks Catnip, they had a great pro photographer on the day so I could take it easy and go for some less formal shots. Will be posting more of those soon…
SharonAHenson

Mel Brackstone
Awww….what a gorgeous couple! I’m loving the wide angle, Bill!! :Þ Welcome home man!
billyboy replied
Jeeze yeah, this is my first posted shot with my new toy!! Mel, I`ve been lovin’ it. Took a while to get to know which apertures and shutter speeds work best with it, but now I`m so stuck on it… think I took two shots with my 100mm, then put the 16-35 back on and kept it there. Total fun… you`ll be seeing lots more…
Sherry Osborn
Did you get to go to those churches that I told you about?
This is a nice shot!
billyboy replied
I was gonna wait till I got home to reply to all these amazing comments, but couldn`t resist telling you how many pictures I took at Basilique de Notre Dame… this is the most amazing church by far I`ve ever seen in my life. It will take me a while to decide which pic is best and post it, but keep your eyes peeled! Mary Queen of the World was pretty grand too (got pics of that too), but Notre Dame totally blew me away. Thanks for commenting!
Barbara Sparhawk
A wonderful photograph, proud dad. That glow inside the church, the statues, the satin gown, the tuxedoed men, the sense of the size of the room from the priest so far up front, the open window to summer, all contribute. The best is the totally happy relaxed bride and groom who look full of life and at the start of great adventure. Beautiful to see, a beautiful couple. Tell them a state-side amigo of the father of the bride wishes them all the best in the world from here to ever after.
billyboy replied
Barbara, I so love the way you look at things and put so much thought into your comments… just been to your pf (embarassed at having not been back in so long) and see you`ve totally nailed the photography of your work. I`ll go back when I`ve got the time it deserves. Thank you so much for looking so deep, and I won`t have to tell them anything… they`ll see it for themselves! XO2U
Joseph Darmenia
Very nice for I/20 of sec hand held.
billyboy replied
Joseph, I have to admit I held my breath. At 16mm, 1/20 sec shouldn’t be much ofn a problem, but that big sensor on the 5D is pretty unforgiving if you want print big or crop. I was lucky with this one as some others I took at that speed were a bit less sharp. Thanks for the compliment!
Globalphotos
Beautiful location and what a stunning bride :))
billyboy replied
Thanks Varinia, I was amazed when they showed me the church before the event. Couldn’t have made a better choice!!
udonchow
This is a sweet shot! I love how your daughter was looking at you with those eyes :D
billyboy replied
Yeah, those eyes… think they’re what does it for Arthur too!
Arlene Zapata
lots looser + relaxed this time around! Love the look she’s giving you in that formal setting.
billyboy replied
Don’t let that relaxed look fool you… to me it said “I was at the hairdresser at 5 AM this morning and the party’s gonna last till 3… help…”
Tatiana R
Really cool, don’t usually see bride and groom sitting casually like this. Well, I know they’ve married already. Must have been a bit weird for them to do it again, but at least they look very relaxed second time. Can’t wait to see your Montreal pictures!
billyboy replied
I was actually amazed at how relaxed everyone was considering the size of the event. But the organization was flawless, and this was mainly down to Mel and Art themselves, and Art’s mom, the amazing vicky. Awesome how 6 months of planning comes together… the hairdresser for all the girls on the morning was booked last January. That was before the first wedding!!
Hans Kawitzki
very sweet shot with so much details in the image
billyboy replied
Thanks for that Hans. I would have liked a bit more DOF but as the shutter speed was on the edge I didn’t want to lose any more light.
clarkey
Bill, this is just so beautiful in every way – the church itself, the lighting, the window opening onto a beautifully lit garden, and Mel and Art. They both look really comfortable, and Mel, with her hair loose this time, looks like an Angel (Art sure is a lucky man). A very proud Dad you must be, and justifiably so. Best wishes to Mrl and Art for a lifetime of happiness and discovery.
billyboy replied
Thanks so much jan for the kind words and encouragement. I’ve told Art many times how lucky he is, but it doesn’t hurt that you tell him as well! There was one little girl at the reception who stopped and stared at Mel in awe in the welcoming line… thought she was actually Cinderalla!
Bride & groom will so appreciate your wishes.
aroha
wow what a stunning building! melanie looks so beautiful you must have been so proud if a little sad giving her away… this is a lovely photo, it has a really intimate feel to it, i love the way she is looking at you
billyboy replied
OK, I’d already given her away officially in January… but that doesn’t mean I didn’t shed a tear at one point. There were some truly beautiful moments, this being one of them. Thanks so much for such a lovely comment.
David Harris
Fantastic capture! They are very lucky having you to record this special day for them! Great work!
billyboy replied
Cheers David. I know the official snapper’s pictures will be awesome, but I would never have considered leaving my camera at home. And there were of course some shots he didn’t get so the kids will truly have the whole event covered!
Sherry Osborn
Did you find the small church on the side road by the Basillia churh. The one with the wood carved saints and all the gold. Lots of carved wood there. You dont want to miss ut.Its on a side road by the main church where the horses pickk uppeople. If you look down the road the church is smack right in front of you. Not on the left side or right. Its a dead end and at the head of the table… Thats the only way I can explain how to find it.Sorry
billyboy replied
Don’t think I know the one you mentioned. And in fact, I also missed an amazing thing that my cousin Diane pointed out… if you slip along the side of the alter in the Basilica and go behind it, there is a beautiful chapel, also with amazing carved wood. I was so pissed off I missed that even though it wasn’t obvious… you sort of had to know it was there. BUT, next time I visit, I’ll check out that and the one you mentioned… with those amazing directions. Could take me all day…
Mel Brackstone
Looking forward to seeing what you did, Bill!

Fine compliment coming from the all-time grand master of wedding shots. Melissa, your spontaneous, ‘capture the moment’ photography is an inspiration to all us mere mortals!

Rhonda Thomassen
The church is fabulous! Looking forward to browse through the photo’s. They look so happy!
Julie Langford
I love this one. The mood is just perfect with the subtle lighting and soft feel. I love the way your daughter is looking back in this shot, centred into the frame. Beautiful Billyboy. who needs a wedding photographer when you have a Dad who can do this!
Dave Moilanen
That’s great news BB! I raise my Labatt Blue in honor of the new members of the Guppy Tank! ;-)
Mechellerene
takes my breath away…
love the window on the right… gorgeous.
billyboy replied
Cool you noticed the window Mechelle… and as I’m in a Catholic church, I need to confess. The exposure on that window was totally blown out so I had to take a pic of the outside and collage it behind the window, then blend the layers through the glass. Probably could have got it better if I’d spent more time, but I thought it looked OK in the end as it’s actually the way it looked on the day. This was my fav shot of the whole event and Photoshop saved it. Go figure. And thanks for losing your breath!

That church is stunning!! I wanna be married in one like that!
billyboy replied
Rachel, it was really cool to see your comment here… hadn’t heard from you in so long! So does this mean you’re getting married? That church is gorgeous on the outside too. I’ll have more shots soon with a link to them so stay tuned!
EnVee
beautiful shot!!
Roslyn Slater
So lovely!!
Mia1
Beautiful shot. That church is gorgeous and so is the couple. :o)
billyboy replied
Hey Mia! Thanks for your comments on this and the other wedding pics. And since you mentioned the church, thought you might want to see what the outside looks like. Lots of the churches in Montreal have their steeples covered with what looks like aluminum foil… don’t exactly know what it is, but reflecting in the sunlight it looks totally stunning. Here’s a wide angle shot that shows the cute out buildings as well. It’s the oldest church in Montreal, and definitely the sweetest. Perfect plave for a sweet wedding!
clarkey
Not only is it a beautiful church, but, it looks quite imposing, too. Beautiful pic, Bill – I can see why they got married there – it’s been standing a long time and it inspires confidence in the futurre.
billyboy replied
Hey Jan, so cool you found this… was wondering if anybody would! Cool thing about this church is that crossing over the bridge from Laval (where our hotel was) to Montreal, you could see the spires over the tops of the trees glistening in the sunlight. So every time we drove into the city we had that lovely reminder both before and after the event. Hard to capture the true beauty in a photograph.
Thanks for the comment!!
clarkey
You’re more than welcome, Bill. With such a beautiful day and a beautiful building, it would be hard NOT to take a good photograph. LOL – even I might manage it! :-/
Cathleen Taraw...
Love this shot, lot’s of ‘stuff’ to look at. And I really like the shot from the front too. Beautiful tones.
linaji
To me this looks like the little girl is lookin to her da and saying something only you two know the meaning of.. all the other players are in the background including this handsome and much beloved husband to be.. but thats just me… xoxo
billyboy replied
You are SO observant… the guy on her right just does NOT get it and is seems oblivious to the secrets. That look she’s giving me is our whole history, both good and bad, summed up in a single glance and I’ve got a tear in my eye now that you’ve made me recognize it.
Of all the hundreds of pictures I took over both weddings, this is the one that has always touched me the deepest. Trust you to single it out and make me realize why. x
Joanne Bradley
I love the spontaneity of the shot! Just a lovely moment between all of you! And gasp what a beautiful church, living in the Montreal area, I will have to check it out…
