Happy 5th of July!!
OK; so I missed the 4th. But I haven’t seen many fireworks pics here on RB, so thought I’d just get this one in a day late…
In fact, it’s a couple of years late. This was taken in the Algarve, Portugal (where else?) during one of their many reasons to throw a big party. I needed to get both sources in and my lens wasn’t wide enough… so as I do, I panned 2 shots and stitched ‘em together in PS.
That was one amazing display over Carvoeiro beach, a small fishing village that is rapidly expanding but is still a charming reminder of what life was like down there before the EU bulldozed in. I was lucky to get that vantage point, in fact in the back yard of some Portuguese family who didn’t really understand what I was doing there with my tripod and sent their dog out to chase me away… silly thing just ended up humping my leg and went back inside to sleep it off. I seem to have that effect on dogs… go figure!
This is for Candy cause I know what loud fireworks and thunderstorms do for her… and by the way Cathleen, are you finally happy I’ve pulled my stupid finger out?

Wow – this is pretty spectacular Billyboy – the lighting is remarkable and those subtle reflections are wonderful. The whole picture screams – Lets Celebrate! I love it. I agree Joseph – it carries ten times the impact when viewed large.

Yeah Jan, that finger had been in for way too long… was getting all wrinkled, you know like when you`ve stayed too long in the bath… OK, I`m going nowhere with this… Thanks for looking and your lovely support as always!

You’ll get wide enough with your 16mm, but the fireworks won’t be as large in the frame….you’re going to have to get REAL close next time you’re in Portugal! Either that, or keep stitching matey :)

Yeah, point taken… will probably keep stitching no matter what. Should get the new lens by Wednesday… what to take first? Got a cat getting ready to go to the moon… could make an interesting editorial shot!

With that lens you’ll be able to get so close to the cat we’ll see the whites of its eyes before you send it into the twilight zone :) Otherwise it’ll just be a speck in the sky if you open it up to 16mm and then send it flying :)

Thanks Joni. I have to confess the clarity of the buildings was mainly due to the fact that I took many shots… the ones with the best fireworks were either over or under exposed, so I took some of the shots with the better exposed buildings and merged them where needed. Which wasn’t too easy cause it was all on film and I had to scan all those negs. Jeeze, what we used to have to put up with to get things right!!

Tremedous Billy! I could see the fireworks from my back porch but all I could hear were barking dogs and screaming kids, drove me a bit batty so went in the house, Ha! but this here, now , this is worth sticking around for!
