Bird Puss

Scratch, our Siamese, photographed with what would on a normal day be his dinner. Birds were shot at a local pet store and added in Photoshop. As the birds were photoraphed in cages, the bars they were behind had to be cloned out, and this took a lot of time and patience. Addition of shadows and direction of lighting effects were important factors to getting the image to look realistic.

This shot is fantastic. It shows me how much I have to learn on photoshop. I have two HUGE books to study. When read, and with a lot of practice and patience, I hope I can produce something as nice as this.

I too started out with two huge books, but neither of them really touched on what I wanted to do with Photoshop so I got impatient. I used the books to get some of the basic skills and use of the tools, then just started getting practice with anything that came into my head. Took a good year to get it down, but I can say that the book was nothing compared to just going at it with vigor!

Thanks Derid, it was published in issue 24 (July) of Photoshop Creative magazine as a step-by-step. It turned up in some Barnes & Noble stores in the US, but about a month later. It’s cool that you remember having seen it!!

Clever shot. beautiful cat. (he probably wouldn’t have hurt them unless he was hungry. The very best thing about Siamese cats they do not play with their food, and only kill to eat)
