The blue eyes, blue birds, blue bowl works excelllent! The black background works really well as it pops the subject matter in full view.

This shot is fantastic. It shows me how much I have to learn on photoshop. I have two HUGE books to study. When read, and with a lot of practice and patience, I hope I can produce something as nice as this.

I too started out with two huge books, but neither of them really touched on what I wanted to do with Photoshop so I got impatient. I used the books to get some of the basic skills and use of the tools, then just started getting practice with anything that came into my head. Took a good year to get it down, but I can say that the book was nothing compared to just going at it with vigor!

Thanks Derid, it was published in issue 24 (July) of Photoshop Creative magazine as a step-by-step. It turned up in some Barnes & Noble stores in the US, but about a month later. It’s cool that you remember having seen it!!

As I recall, it was an excellent step by step. I will have to dig it up and go thru it again.

I had a lilac point siamese call ‘Ming’ he was such a joy in my life for seven years. He got diabetes and was put down…............ I never got over his loss…..........consequently whenever I see a siamese….....I go mushy inside…............ Gorgeous composition…..... you are clever!! xxL

MISHU… was his name and he was the only cat I will ever own.. well maybe. He walked with me came when I called him and was the most amazing cat I have ever seen. this little one is a blue point? He was and I have looked at this veryveryvery popular pic for awhile now and have decided I shall fave this fine fellow. Not only because everthing you touch turns to Gold.. all your work is simply incredibly amazingly.. SUPERB, but because I don’t have any pics of when he was a baby. And I would like to think he would have posed just this way with no need for photoshope .. just me saying.. MIIIISHUUUUUU.. come here baby boy.. and he would run run run.. and perch up and I had a whole house.. (I was in a collage rental) with a bunch of cat trails made of carpet and boards that ran through the whole living room and kitchen where there was a window he favored.
Yes.. I would say.. “now Mishu.. just stay right there and let me put this stuff on you”.. and I know without a shadow of a doubt…he would, now we would have to have a set up ready to go, he would let me put those birds on him and click.. maybe we coulda got 7 shots.. consecutive.. maybe 10..
So I love this picture.. Alot. Your a genius Billy and these calenders should be marketed better.. People love their animals and your shots are so original and precious!! Kinda like the creator.. xox

PS.. I know they were real birds.. and well.. that may have been too much.. but with him.. you never know.. smile….....

I would like to echo all of the above… this image is just the best! I know this little fellow is a Siamese… but I have a little ragdoll that looks just sooo much like this! I actually have 2 ragdolls but the younger has a bit shorter hair… eyes and colouring are the same but ears are a little different… I think Siamese may have been in the breeding of ragdolls which accounts for the similarities…. cat lovers… you can’t stop them can you…! That aside… this image is just superb!!! I love everything about it… composition, execution etc… what infinite patience you must have!

ok, this gets favourited because it is some of the cleanest post-production work I have ever seen.

The lighting direction and intensity are flawless, and shadow effects are so real, that even on the enlarged version you can not tell where “real” ends and post-production begins.
