With mounting certainty the greeny wall bears down –
it’s crest a-chattering with excited anticipation.
Relentless, unhesitating it comes onward
The eager tops can wait no longer and teeter on the brink
and just begin to fall – when
Smash! and Crash!
Pounding the rock with unleashed energy
that booms of power
A sound that redounds and resounds and rebounds
around the bay
Foam and spume and froth fly
in a million smashes
And leap toward the sky
as if to climb over the obstacle
of mossy rock.
and slip and swirl
and curl in desparate, frustrated fury
and fret and fume.
And lie all spent a moment.
Then, black and oily,
