One cannot plan a drawing. One merely chooses a medium, faces the subject and begins work. The process is pure, spontaneous, and direct. If one is lucky; the outcome will be worthy of the subject and the process.
Very eloquently put. In my opinion, nothing beats a short, humble artist’s statement at a gallery showing =) The shorter it is, the more it deepens the mystery…
Oh yes – for more good luck and spontaneity. It is always so – as I agree – too much mind, too much control; let the muses have your hand. Thanks for the reminder Bill.
Well summed up. I find the surprises can be pleasant or otherwise and to be learned from. “…pure, spontaneous, and direct” = ‘intuitive’, or from the gut, like it takes a certain ‘trust’. Although, I wonder if we still ‘know’ what we are doing, if we should take responsibility for our unconscious mind. Or, are we choosing to ignore the submerged part of the iceberg? If we are able to program our unconscious by constantly choosing, acts of will, making value judgements on our desires, critiquing other’s work, visiting a gallery, etc, are we then not making our own ‘luck’. Perhaps claiming ‘luckiness’ is false modesty, or at least an act of humility we all admire.
