Echuca Port
The Port of Echuca on the Victorian side of the Murray River was once a bustling, industrious town and at its peak was the largest inland port in Australia. situated on the closest point of the Murray River to Melbourne, Echuca’s fleet of paddlesteamers were essential in delivering goods up and down the Murray River.
Today it is thriving as a tourist destination, holding onto it’s 19th century charm. The main wharf, built in the 1860s once extended 1.2km along the river. It is a beautiful town and I highly recommend spending a few days there. Nothing beats having a quiet beer on the Murray, watching the sun set beyond the River Red Gums and finding a Murray Cod on the end of your line….
