So glad to meet you. Would you like to come over to my tent and clown around? You can try on my extra large shoes or maybe honk my horn. Don’t be frightened, my makeup doesn’t rub off.

Canon 7D, f/2.8, 1/4 s, ISO-100, 40mm

Photomanipulation/composite self portrait using a single photo, added makeup and my own textures with Photoshop Elements, final HDR look, coloring and cropping in PS Lightroom.

I am self taught, with an imagination that will not stop. I started drawing as a kid, and dabbled with correspondence art school but never took art in high school or college because I felt it might constrain me. I was wrong, but no crying over spilled milk.

Love this in a strange way. Clowns are my biggest fear. Always have been. This takes the cake. There is something about his hand being exposed and not hidden with paint or gloves that helps gives this its power with the dirty makeup. Great work.

  • Thanks Randy. I actually considered doing something with the bare hand but didn’t in the end. I suppose it could humanize the freakish guy a bit, or completely put it over the top as you mentioned. I also toyed with several lighting finishes and chose this one eventually, I hope it works. In my opinion, it matters not what kind of an expression a clown wears, it’s terrifying and the slight smile I used seems to hide some devious thought for sure. Thanks for stopping by and thoughtfully commenting…love your name btw.

A sinister portrayal and one many adults and children, including me, would relate well to … there’s something very disturbing about the false smile of a clown … excellent shot randy, very clever work

  • Thanks for taking the time to comment Carol, appreciated. I’m confident that the very peek of a clown in a thumbnail makes people shy away from viewing, understandable of course. I’m convinced that “real” clowns are indeed alien invaders that have come here to intoxicate us with sweets and distract us with balloon tricks just so they can secretly harvest our bodies into a sticky sweet soylent green soup back on the carnival home world.
