Homeless in Seattle by Randy Turnbow

The World As We See it, or As We Missed it
A Street Story

Top Ten
Power of Photography, Photojournalism challenge

A candid shot of a homeless fellow on the pier in Seattle, Washington. Such an enigma. Where did he come from? Where is he heading? Is he talking to himself or hallucinating? Does his family know of his situation? Do they care?
So many questions arise when I see him.

Canon 7D, f/23, 1/60 sec, ISO-100, 85mm

Single photo photo manipulation using HDR processed in Photomatix, finished in Lightroom.

I am self taught, with an imagination that will not stop. I started drawing as a kid, and dabbled with correspondence art school but never took art in high school or college because I felt it might constrain me. I was wrong, but no crying over spilled milk.

Perfect in Composition and framing. I thank God for rescuing me from a life of Alcoholism. I was sleeping rough [Homeless] in st Marys church Graveyard in London. Then a very kind reverend saw me and Showed me Gods love and Compassion. That was in 1986. Today I am a Pastor and God touched my life through someone else who stopped and did more that just smile. God Bless those who are facing homelessness and challenges. I pray I and others will take the time to stop and show them , we do care.

Randy, this image has sure brought back memories to me, and I love this image.

  • So glad this image speaks to you Trevor. I know my heart wept for him as I watched. Thanks for looking.
