Sky Control by Harry Purves

Sky Control by

Have you ever wondered what is actually in those indispensable TV remote controls? I thought not. So here is a Sky remote laid bare for all to see.

This one was intermittent, so it’s indispensability became dispensable. I thought It made a decent still life however.

By the way, these things are not meant to come apart, and certainly not meant to be repaired. Since that is against being kind to the planet I carefully removed the grease off the button pads and the contacts on the PCB and it now works a treat!!

Canon 450D 18-55mm kit lens @ 24mm
Exposure 1/30 f/8 ISO 200
Taken on my table top with an A3 paper background.

About Harry Purves

Joined BT in 1971 and studied part time for a degree in Electronic Engineering. Moved into IT Design in 83, Production and Support later. Promoted to senior management level and was part of management for £1Bn contract. Took early retirement in 2009 and rekindled my passion for photography. My art is eclectic. I’ll photograph anything and everything. I’d like to do more portraits and studio work. However, the world is full of images just waiting to be captured.

You’ll never get it together again Harry, well I know I wouldn’t :O)

  • Sorry Les, not only is it back together it works better now that I’ve cleaned out the grease. One of my past occupations came in handy. :o)

    Thanks for your comments.

That’s so cool, Harry… and is the right side the left side turned over? i can’t imagine that one remote would have that many parts!! excellent idea… and a great creation!!! i hope you get tons of responses to this!! hugs!

  • All the cleaver parts are inside the “Black Spot” on the right of the green panel. And yes, you’re right, the left side is the right side turned over!

Thanks for your kind words, so do I!

Interesting piece there Harry! I usually see the inside of my remote when certain people come on television; of course, we need a new TV also.

  • Is that because you throw it at the TV when they come on Chris? That’s bad!

I was pretty certain no one on RB would have seen a piece like this one, and it’s in pieces too. LOL

Thanks for your cool comments Chris.

Great photo, but you’ll be getting angry messages now from all those less-clever Redbubblers who are taking their remote controls apart and can’t reassemble them properly :-)

  • Ah! A business opportunity! I can put them back together for a fee. However, they’re so cheap most people just throw them out and buy a new replacement.

    Thanks for your comment Dave.

    Way cool!!!

  • Thanks so much Cee.
Some may say I have too much time on my hands, and they’d be right! But I try to create something in that time. Tomorrow it will be soup!
