I was home alone after the Easter bank holiday so I thought I’d photograph some of the birds that eat our scraps and specifically bought wild bird food. I set up the camera on it’s tripod and fired away. I really like the look of the Jackdaws so I was very pleased to have captured this one in this pose. However, on closer inspection this unfortunate Jackdaw seems to have lost one eye, probably as a result of a skirmish over food or a female Jackdaw. Poor thing! So I’ve named him Cyclops! (So original ;o) )
Just in case you’re thinking, “what a heartless person that Harry is” let me just say that I didn’t notice that this bird was missing an eye until I was looking at the picture on my monitor. He seemed to get around as fast as the other Jacks and as accurately as the other Jacks too. The feeder he is on is not intended for birds as big as a Jackdaw, but he managed to fly in and land on it without any bother! So there was no clue at the time of taking the picture. When I discovered his missing eye while reviewing the photograph I was a bit upset for a while. But that’s nature for you.
