Hey, the Canon 500D close up filter will work on the Nikon 70-200mm lens or 70-300mm lens as well. Does a super macro job too. Thanks Holy Cow! LOL

Really!!!!! You did THIS with a FILTER??? ~ thud ~~ <~ that’s me falling off my chair … hang on a sec while I climb back up. WHEW. Hon, I’ve got a filter for my 55-200 … and it was a flippin’ NIGHTMARE!!!! I can’t tell you how much time I wasted with that thing!!!!! SUCH a tiny pin-point of clarity … icky dof!!!!!! I finally saved up my pennies and got the Nikon 60mm macro lens, and I’m very happy with that. Honestly and truly, sweetie … I am wildly impressed that you got a shot like this with a filter!!!!!! I bow to your extraordinary photographic expertise!!!!!!!!
BigD replied
Try using F-22 with that filter and see what you get. When I used a low f-# it would give me a tiny pin-point of clarity. LOL You have to play with the f-numbers even when you are on top of the subject but f-22 works every time for me. The 500D close up filter will only cost about $70 to $130. Much cheaper than a macro lens, which have too.

Beautiul capture, BigD :) I have one of a butterfly in my portfolio that I used a +10 Macro filter on, it turned out pretty good :)
Lois Bryan
Oh you are soooo right … I was trying to do it all hand held … no tripod … so couldn’t tighten down the ap as much as I should have … I know I really shouldn’t bad mouth the poor filter, rofl!!!!!
BigD replied
Sometimes F-22 won’t work because I need a faster shutter speed like 640. The little rascals won’t sit still for a minute. LOL I hope it’s been helpful. :-) This image was hand held. LOL Shutter speed was fast. LOL

wonderful shot – they have just started to arrive here
- I use the 500D filter on my 100-400 and works ok but is frustrating -need to haul out the tripod I guess—daveBigD replied
May be that’s the problem. I thought the 500D was only 50-200mm or the 70-300mm lens. I don’t know I could be wrong and thanks for the review.

These damselflies are so small, so rapid and flighty, it’s very difficult to get well-focused shots of them, but you pulled this off magnificently! Done like a real pro! You’ve got my admiration, that’s for sure!
