-they are cabbage slicers used to make sauerkraut and slaw! (I used to collect them) It is a very good presentation of some wonderful antiques Big D!!! :)BigD replied

We still use the same type of cabbage slicers for sauerkraut, except yesterday we were given an old three blader. Will try it this week. Very nice display..

Love the color of that wall! Intriguing Big D

Bottom is a wash board, top right is thermometer then slaw cutter then the one with the wooded handle is a rug or carpet beater with a curry comb hanging over it next the hook is too long for a hay hook so it must be a meat hoot then finally another slaw cutter. congratulations of the feature.
BigD replied
Thanks Barnsis

2. You can poke your eye out with that!
3. A Whosawatsitthingamabob
4. The one you get free.
5. Thermometer for taking a horse’s temperature by mouth.
6. A musical instrument, well….if you like that sound.

What the heck is a curry comb?
BigD replied
I don’t know. LOL tuffie said it was.
Sue Wotton
Curry comb is something you brush horses down with, but the last time I saw one it looked more like a brush. Could be an old one tho. I’m with whoever said second from the left is a hay hook, its very similar to one used by the father of a friend of mine when I was a kid, for hauling bales off the back of a truck to help feed the cattle during drought. The two with the angled whatsits tho… seems to me they look kinda like guillotine blades smooshed together, or some kind of guide system into which you might stick a plank of wood you wanted to saw at a paricular angle. I think the angled metal bits in the middle must move in some way. On the whole, I haven’t a clue. :)

What an absolutely brilliant wall. I love the tones and textures of the contrasting wood and red paint. It is so nicely composed. The background of the other room to the far right adds to the shot as well. It breaks up the rich colours with some nice black and white tones. I’m going to have to put this in my favs.

Could the big hook be used for ice? I remember my great grandmother using a washboard in a laundry sink. Those were the days. Anyway, the colors are stunning plus I like the arrangement of the antique items on the wall. What lies beyond that wall is intriguing.
BigD replied
It could be but I thought it was a meat hook. Thank you :-)

So interesting….many guesses, I agree with the cabbage slicers, or maybe meat….so perhaps that was just a slice of an agreement..A thermometer. Definate on the washboard…or maybe some kind of hillbilly instrument…so maybe I am only partially playing the right tune on that one. And a back scratcher for bigfoot…..when you know will you share with us?
BigD replied
OMG, I think you nailed it right on the money. LOL Thanks for commenting.
