This is a male Sumatran Tiger making such a great face. It was a sort of grimace or attempt at trying to be scary without putting a lot of effort in!! It is just one of those images that still makes me smile every time that I see it.
They live on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and they have been isolated from their cousins on mainland Asia for over 10,000 years; this happened after a rise in sea level.
They are critically endangered with around 300 believed to remain on Sumatra in fragmented areas mainly in the Islands national parks. This is down from over 1,000 tigers in the mid 1980’s
They are one of the most critically endangered big cats on the planet.
