This is one of the 4 Pallas Cat kittens born at the end of May this year. They were 7 weeks old when this one was taken. They are now out and about exploring – when mum lets them!! They are going to be a real handful over the coming months.
It was taken inside at a high ISO so its not best quality shot but it still makes me smile.
Pallas cats are well adapted to cold arid environments and occupy steppes, alpine deserts and rocky outcrops at fairy high elevation throughout Asia from the Caspian Sea and Iran to South Eastern Russia and Tibet.
They have some of the thickest fur of any cat, a sign of the very cold conditions they live in. Coat colour ranges from light grey to yellowish buff to russet. The white tips of each hair has a frost silvery appearance. They have two dark streaks across each side of the face and four rings on their tail.
They are still hunted for their fur – that is made into hats and fur coats.
