This is a very rare male North Chinese Leopard – and a cat not seen very often even in captivity. There are only 4 in the UK and all are part of the breeding programme. As you can see from his face he is not the friendliest of cats – and spends 95% of his day in his house very rarely venturing outside. He is very scary though……….and moves with incredible speed and certainly is a cat to be very wary of!
The North Chinese leopards are large leopards, with darker orange background fur than other leopard subspecies. Their rosettes are large, have much darker enclosed fur, and sometimes even a spot within the rosette – traits common in Jaguars, but not seen in other leopard subspecies. They are also rare in captivity with fewer than 100 believed to be in captivity worldwide.
