Job Opportunity

The company that I work for is looking for another photographer to work at Randwick (Inner Sydney)…the job is permanent part time, you must have your own equipment, a good portfolio and some experience handling newborns.

If you are interested let me know :)

HSC Mentoring

Over the past few months Daniel and I have been working with Cooper a Year 12 Photography Student with his Higher School Certificate works.

We got together about 4 months ago and came up with a concept…

To emulate four Old Master’s ArtWorks with a modern twist in each as a commentary on modern consumerism.

Daniel and I met with Cooper a number of times to shoot all the images used in the reproductions and to create the composites in Photoshop.

The final images were printed up as close to the original artworks sizes as possible (the largest being 800 × 600mm) on canvas and then framed in antique frames.

The results were fantastic!!

We will be waiting with baited breath for the marks :)

I won a camera!!

Yesterday I received a notification from the Canon – World of EOS site that my image Bejeweled had won in the latest link on the Hero Chain!!

As an avid Nikon fan it is a little disconcerting to now be a Canon owner – but I am now the proud owner of a Canon 550D Single Lens Kit.

I am not sure that I will cross over to the dark side – but it will be fun trying it out :)

Rainbows...

During our Kid’s Photography Camp this term we created rainbow collages out of everyday objects.

The kids brought in their own objects, we set up lights and the backdrop and they had to shoot the objects.

Then each of them chose the images they wanted to use in the collage, edited them in Photoshop and then put the collage together.

How clever are they?!!

Tutorial - Painting with Light

There a many different ways to photograph light trails and painting with light, the following tutorial is what worked for us at the Snapshots meet. You can also find this tutorial in the Red Door Creative Group you can also enter your awesome images in the Painting with Light Challenge.

There are two very different methods you can use when painting with light.

  1. Painting portions of the subject with diffuse light
Here you paint around your subject, or on your subject to expose desired parts (eg. Face), while ensuring that the torch faces away from the camera and directly towards the subject. You can get quite close to the subject for a more intense light, or move back for a softer light. This technique will give your object a beautiful glow.

  1. Creating light trails
In this technique you use th

J'adore Art Market

Our second Art Market went off as well as the Christmas one did – despite the deluge of rain.

We had free hand massages, enjoyed music from Tommy and Daniel, watched Liz create gorgeous jewellery and enjoyed all the art :)

There were quite a few Redbubblers in attendance last night including:

Adriana
Steve
Brett
Jason
Daniel
Lorraine
Anton
Rosie
Rosalie and Me

Here are some images from the night:

Tommy one of the musicians who entertained us

Woo hoo!!

This afternoon i received a bubblemail from Lorraine letting me know that my image New Life was in the current issue of Digital Photography and Design!

I had no idea – so rushed up to the local newsagent and there it is! It was one of 6 finalists in a competition.

Very exciting :)

Tutorial - Smoke Trails

There a many different ways to photograph smoke trails, the following tutorial is what worked for us at the Snapshots meet. You can also find this tutorial in the Red Door Creative Group you can also enter your awesome images in the Smoke Trails Challenge.

What you will need

  1. Incense stick or cone to burn

Want to challenge yourself?

Each Thursday Daniel and I run Snapshots a Photography Club at Red Door Creative.

There have been many of you that have expressed your disappointment at being interstate or overseas and unable to join in the fun.

So, I put my thinking cap on and decided that we would write a tutorial each week outlining the skills we learnt in class – which I will post on my account as a journal.

Then a challenge will be run in the Red Door Creative Group – where you can all put up the best of your images from that particular theme, the winner will be the homepage image on the Red Door Creative Webpage for a week.

We will also be having an end of year exhibition where the best images of the year will be on display.

If you would like to learn some new skills, get the camera out of mothballs an…

Calling for artists and photographers

Red Door Creative is currently calling for artists and photographers to exhibit or participate in our February art market and exhibition.

Our December market was a raging success with many people coming through on the night. They all thoroughly enjoyed the live art demonstrations, watching a painting come to life and learning more about Hebel Sculptures, while Daniel Hopkins kept us entertained with his gorgeous music. It was a fantastic opportunity for the community to see artists at work.

This month’s theme is aimed at targeting Valentine’s Day.

  1. We currently have 3 tables available for the market – and are looking for unique, affordable art/items priced at less than $100 each.
  2. Tables fees are $50 per table with no commission taken from sales

Mission Impossible - Day 2

Day two of the Red Door Creative Photography Boot Camp found the kids making their own goo out of corn starch, bursting water balloons on their heads and throwing darts through full balloons. Remember when you are looking at these images that the kids range in age from 10 – 14 years.

Here are some of today’s images…

Mission Impossible - Day 1

Today the kids at the Red Door Creative Photography Boot Camp were presented with a Mystery Box – full of items to shoot over 10 hours.

Some of the items included in the box were:

Balloons
Cornflour
Sunglasses
Gnome
Fishing Fly
Hundreds and Thousands
Star shaped Bokeh Lens Cover
Glitter
Pack of playing cards
Food Colouring
Ribbon
Redheads Matches
Bubbles
Light Bulbs

As a group we then came up with things to do with the objects. It was hilarious watching the kids plant their face in a plate full of Hundreds and Thousands.

Tomorrow is going to get seriously messy – we are exploding balloons full of water, or cornflour. Making goo to cover Zoe and Daniel with and just creating general mayhem :)

Here are some of the images…

Ideas please...

I am trying to organise the first term of Snapshots – Red Door Creative’s Photography Club…I need some ideas.

I feel the need to share...

Meg (my 13 year old) borrowed my camera the other day while I was ill, and shot some images of Ty…when I uploaded the images from the camera I was so impressed with the results that I thought that they deserved sharing with you all.

Ok, so the last one is of Zoe – but it’s still a great shot of another budding photographer hard at work :)
