Truckies Lament

In multi lanes, I rumble on
Not fast or slow, cruise control on
But when I catch up and go to pass
You have to speed up, gotta go fast
So I slip in behind to vacate the lane
Then you slow down, ya fucking pain
I’m up ya arse, its called tailgating
And you get all shitty, its so frustrating!

I’m slow up the hills, foot to the floor
Gotta heavy load, she won’t do no more
But you get angry, cause I am so slow
Just remember, like you, I got places to go
Food on board, meant for the store
Vegies, fruit and a whole lot more
But to you, slow road block, pain in the arse
I’m in your way, too slow, can’t go fast

I pull up at red lights, and you jump in front
And if I hit you, who bears the brunt
No thought from you of what might happen
Brakes locked up, tyres smoking, pants a crapping
So many times this happens each day
From behind the wheel, if you saw it my way
You’d get a shock at the way I am treated
See my fist shake, horn blare…… yes I get heated

So next time you see one, patience and time
For most of us do toe the line
When you buy your gas, groceries or meat
Just remember in the drivers seat
Is just a man trying his best
To deliver your shit, without much rest
So next time your behind me, yeah it sucks
But the world would stop if it wasn’t for trucks

WOOHOO!!! I loved it. So well written and brilliant! My partner will agree when he reads this Big-Keg, he knows exactly what you are saying here. I have so much respect for truckies as I do know what you go through every day…and this written work says it all mate…awesome! :):):)

  • Ha Ha wow thanks for the great comment Janine…… its what I do everyday and I get frustrated with people’s unthinking attitudes :)

Nice writing! This is so effing true… Just remember in the drivers seat Is just a man trying his best To deliver your shit, without much rest … that line really takes me back! I did this work for years, and most folks really don’t understand what the guy in the seat goes through. Cool work, Big-Keg!

  • Thanks so much…….. nice to get a comment from another who knows lol……. cheers

great write! i can’t count how many times i almost shoved some south florida snow bird off the highway with the 28 footer filled with millions of $ worth of lighting gear; i guess they think more tires and more weight means faster stops. or the number of times, on some twisty, windy, mountain road in new england that some speed racer tried to pass me and nearly killed us both. not to mention the damn near fist fights at red lights cause some jerk thinks they own the road!

  • Ha …. a man after my own heart…. I have gotten out after a jerk pulled in front of me at lights…… I ain’t know small man and scared the shit outta them…… glad you like……… thanks

Awesome writing! My dad was a truck driver for many years until some punk ran him off the road. He rolled his truck 3 times and SOMEHOW walked away without a scratch! He tried going back but it was never the same. I’ve always had respect for truckers but like you said, most people are so absorbed in their life at the moment that they don’t realize that its their lifeline that their constantly cutting off etc!

  • Thanks Kayla ….. its my job so its a subject I know abit about
Unfortunately we get taken for granted so this was to induce some awareness
    Plus I like words lol

Big-Keg, I do so understand this piece. My father was a trucker. Eventually he had to quit the road and stay within the garage and office.
after so many years the road took its toll on him. BUT he loved it and the characters he met along the way. Never a dull moment on the road. He always met the most fascinating people on the planet. Bravo to you!!
