Old Willow Tree

On the bank of a river, that flows to the sea
There grows a tall and stately, old willow tree
One of nature’s jewels, with branches long and fair
Like a maiden’s soft and flowing hair

Leaves shimmer in the breeze, a soft rustling sound
Gently weaving back and forth, some sweep the ground
Gazing at the willow, is there a secret within?
Slowly parting the branches, I softly step in

Against the strong trunk I lean and find to my delight
I can sit there and daydream nearly hidden from sight
The sun’s rays filter through, a few touch my face
Like a gossamer veil of green and gold lace

The day passes slowly in the warm languid air
Dusk now soon approaches and I am still there
On the banks of a river, that flows to the sea
Daydreaming by the trunk of a old willow tree
