This is the part where I’m meant to say something on the lines of , ‘I’ve always had a passion for art and get my inspiration from waves / sunsets……. Picasso etc and how I was born with a paint brush in my hand‘….. Or something to that effect.
Doesn’t really work for me like.
I kind of fell into the whole art thing really. Wasn’t a massive fan of the lessons at school, that involved reading, write and arithmetic….. so that only left Art or PE and I wasn’t so up for running around in the cold in ridiculous gym knickers!. So Art it was, and luckily for me I wasn’t too bad at it.
Finished my GCSE’s and went on to do A’ Level Art and A’ Level Design Tech.
Wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do or be, so just ended up taking the art / design route which was available at the time.
Foundation Art and Design, followed by HND Graphic Design.
If I’m honest don’t think I did any of it for the right reasons, well apart from one which was to complete my education but that’s all good and well but then what??.
4 years later and I pick up a paint brush and painted for the first time without a teacher telling me to or for the purpose of achieving a grade. It’s now for me, my career, my future and for the buzz I get from doing it.
I don’t follow any artists or have a particular style and surprise myself with every piece I do.
Inspiration now comes from everything around me. I see it all as a series of shapes and its with these shapes that I work. Playing with the lines, colour and texture to hopefully produce something that makes the viewer want stop and touch.
I don’t want art that sits pretty behind glass or in a gallery. Its meant to draw you in and be enjoyed.
It’s not a easy task explaining art or why certain painting work and others don’t and I don’t understand a lot of it myself but something inside me does and that lets me know where my brush should go, when to stop or to add more white there or a extra line somewhere else to add balance.
So now I’ve found my passion and this is what I want to do…………… welcome to the world of my creative-i.
Hope you enjoy!.
