For years I have noticed a solitary, out of the way billboard when I visit my doctor. I mostly notice it when some advertisement has been torn off leaving a scarred, interesting surface of remnants. Many times I’ve said to myself – I should photograph that. Today, I had my camera ready. Presented is a rather battered image of an engagement ring a symbol of value and promise. Perhaps this image tells something deeper about the act of engaging ourselves in someone or something. It is through the knocks, bruises, and travails that we really realize the value of our engagement, not the token of shinny metal and a facetted stone. Connecting to this thought, I salute all Americans who have been long engaged in reforming health care – it wasn’t pretty, but the hard won results will prove an immeasurable value for all. It showed that we as a nation can still manage to reach out an grab the brass ring.
