Rain At Last!

At almost the same time as I submitted these words to Red Bubble, Larry Davis submitted his wonderful image HERE
Larry has always been a great supporter of my work so I’d like to dedicate these words to his The Tears of Ida Emi – go check it out, he’s even added music to the image!

The weather has been so dry … too dry. The plants are withering. The recent onslaught of westerly winds and red dust driven in from the outback has further distressed the plants and made us all yearn for moisture to clean the air and the land. It started last night with a thunderstorm followed by steady, gentle rain … its easy to sit back, relax and enjoy what has been provided … rain!

Rain At Last! belongs to the following groups:

"Exceptional Ekphrasis", All About Flowers, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Bits and Pieces , Everyday Life, Friends of RedBubble, Green!, Old farts of redbubble, Rain Drops & Water Art - Fresh Water Only!, Safe Haven and Something To Say

I watch as it falls
... drizzling … misting … rain!
Falling to earth to quench the thirst …
to seep into the cracked and dry soil
and to wet nature’s constant appetite for rain!

The red dust of last week now seems forgotten
with just a hint … a small reminder
... as I watch ochre coloured dribbles of moisture meander down my window pane.

I snuggle deeper into my lounge
all secure and comfy,
my mind content to watch the patterns it creates.

Outside my window the garden takes on a deeper shade of green
... as if the plants are smiling as they enjoy the shower from above.
Droplets of water gather along the leaves,
beads of glowing silver … where they slither and slide
then collide to form a trickle that glides down the stems
before sprinkling to the ground below
... then like the last hurrah!
its gone as it seeps down to the depths .
.. to the thirsty roots below.

Excellent Bev, Our area has nearly recovered from our droughts over the past few years

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Jade! We desperately needed rain here on the east coast. The westerly winds of last week and that horrid red dust storm created havoc with everything so this weekend’s rain is most welcome. Unfortunately our inland areas need it more than us but I doubt they’ll get any of this!♥

Rain o rain. You lucky girl you. can’t wait to get a bit over here. The gras is so crisp and brown it’s depressing.

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks John! I’ll wish some your way. Its very gentle rain but oh so welcome!♥

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Sharon, its certainly been a mixed bag this last week with the dust storms, early high temperatures and now this – but its so welcome!♥

When I was out west last month the sky was alwys hazy, because they were dealing with forest fires in dozens of areas , so I guess we should count the blessings we have

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Jade – this will put out a few fires we have had too!♥

Beautifully crafted piece Bev – I was commenting on the crunchy grass yesterday morning – by evening we were deluged and, like you, today we are content to rug up and watch the gentle rivulets down the window panes!

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Rosalie – you think similar to me. Some of my plants have given up on me so it will be interesting to see what springs to life after this drop!♥

A lovely, evocative piece, Bev, it really conjures the feeling of watching the rain. Let’s hope the sympathetic magic brings more real rain to go with it!

What an absolutely marvelous pairing of such a gorgeous poem of gratitude and this fine, fine image. Bev – it’s such a joy to see you writing because you are so gifted. There’s something so natural and easy about the way your words flow down the page – lovely feeling, lovely images. Love this Bev!

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thank you so much Lianne – I value your comment enormously! It was written on a whimsical moment as I watched the gentle rain and the knowledge that it was so needed. Larry just so happened to add an image of rain and he was so clever to link his work to music too – it all seemed very fitting to link the lot!♥

  • Bev Woodman replied
