An Amazing Mum - A Tribute!
In memory of a truely amazing woman, my mother, Emily Newby Hobbs (nee Carter) 1909 – 1995. Thank you Mum for everything for without you I would not be me!
Our time together – a holiday taken in the Blue Mountains in about 1962

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Creative Poetry Challenges, Everyday Life, Old farts of redbubble, Remember When, Something To Say and The Word TreeYou stare back at me from the photo taken many years before
You would have been in your 20s or thereabouts not more.
Your hair was dark, your eyes they shined
You were happy, relaxing with two kittens entwined.
From here the years rolled by
Times were tough but you survived
You worked hard to keep us clothed
Although the work you did you must have loathed.
You scrubbed floors and cooked for people better off than us
You walked to work, did broken shifts and often caught a bus.
You worked on properties, guest houses, hospitals and pubs,
You sacrificed so much for those you truly loved.
We never truly went without you always made sure
But to do this you had to lay by goods from the local department store.
The money was always budgeted out to the very last pound
But you never complained to us, you never grumbled or ever made a sound.
You had your happy times with the love of your life
He worked just as hard as you and never gave you strife
Together you were married for 60 years plus
Until God tapped you on the shoulder and said you’d had enough.
He took away a treasured joy – I miss you more and more
They said time would ease the pain and it would get easier for sure.
But come this day, this very special time when mothers day comes again
I realise you’re not with me and my heart it aches with pain.
So please enjoy mother’s day and spoil your mum today
Give her hugs and kisses, say you love her and thank her for the sacrifices she has made.
Love her for who she is and let her know – that this is her day, a very special day
Her MOTHERS DAY!

As I read your poem, tears came into my eyes.
I never new my mum, as she died giving me life.
So for me, your words ring true, as this was what my grandmther did for me.
And don’t wait for Mothers Day.
Love her every second of every day, because some memories can fade.
And if you don’t have memories of your mother like me, then you become jealous of everone else.
Treasure her every second that you are together.
Bev Woodman replied
Thanks Larry and I too have tears reading your story. My mother has been gone for 14 years now and I still miss her every day – she was the best friend I ever had. Both Mum & Dad worked so hard throughout their lives but never denied us anything, we lived a simple life but full of fun and adventure. I get very sentimental at this time of the year as I miss not having my Mum to spoil. Your grandmother must have been a wonderful lady to have stepped into her shoes. I only knew one grandmother and she also, in her own simple way, gave us kids all so much. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

A wonderful tribute.
Beautifully written
Bev Woodman replied
Thank you Brandie – Mums are special no matter what walk of life, colour or race. If you are lucky to still have a mother or grandmother then give them a huge cuddle for me.

I wrote my comment, not so much for you, but for those who read it, and whose mother is still alive.

A very beautiful and heartfelt tribute – I also have tears! My mum lives in the UK – I do miss her so! When I had my first child I was able to make contact with her after 21 years. We have been in constant contact ever since and 5 trips later to the UK. Planning to go over next year for her 80th Birthday! Thanks Bev for sharing your beautiful story! Hope you have a lovely Mother’s Day! xo Marilyn :o)
Bev Woodman replied
Thanks Marilyn – treasure your Mum always and I’m pleased you will be making the trip on her 80th, give her a huge hug from me!

So well written a great tribute to your MUM.
Bev Woodman replied
Thanks Warren – I’m not sure if its Mother’s Day in your part of the world tomorrow but it is here in Australia. Every Mother’s Day I miss Mum more and more and seeing as I can’t buy her a gift anymore, this is my tribute to her!

Tears in my eyes, Bev… I lost my Mum in 1990, unexpectedly, and miss her every single day. You’ve brought it all back with this beautiful missive… Mothers’ Day tomorrow, eh? Sighhh
Bev Woodman replied
Hi Sue and thanks for commenting. It is always a bitter sweet day for me too – I miss her every day but Mother’s Day is that little bit harder.

Thanks John for this great comment and I’m so pleased you took the time to do this – I actually wrote this poem last Mother’s Day but didn’t do anything with it … today seemed an appropriate time to share my thoughts.

This is a loving tribute to your mother. Now, I know when mother’s day comes, it hurts because you are reminded of her, but I don’t believe in it. I believe that Mother’s Day is every day. So, I never gave presents to my mother on that day or made it very special. I also expected and expect that from my children. My mother died 12 years ago in agony because of diabetic complications. For three years my dad, my kids and I took care of her every need, even if she was practically bedridden. My son at six would sleep next to her and when she stirred, he quickly got up and if she needed to go to the bathroom, would get strength from somewhere and got her there in time for her to take care of her needs. We gave her everything she wished for everyday. So everyday was mothers day. To this day, my kids are always sending me plane tickets to be with them for no reason, just to be with them and they are always sending me gifts and call me practically everyday to see if I’m o.k. So, I tell everyone honor and love your mother and of course your fathers if they are still alive, like if every day is their day. I am happy I did this. Your poem is beautiful and you could see how grateful you are for her sacrifice.
Bev Woodman replied
Thank you so much for your comment and I’m so pleased you did all you could for your dear mother, it does give us a huge lot of comfort to know this after they are gone. I miss my Mum every day and she has been gone over fourteen years now. I remember Mum telling me that you never get over the loss of a mother. I feel the same way with my Dad too and wished I’d had more time with him in his last years. My poetry and stories I write about both of them is one way for me to hold onto them and express my love. Whether you believe in Mother’s Day or Father’s Day doesn’t really matter as love as you love them forever. I hate the commercial side of these days and believe in keeping them simple – we usually do a picnic day with quite a few families involved and its wonderful to all get together. Thank you again ♥♥♥
