Whispers
I wrote this poem in 2005 originally to be included on a commemorite DVD put together for a family reunion. The poem was influenced by my love of Kurrajong Heights and the old family property there at Panorama Point (the highest point) and the many happy years I spent there as a child walking through the huge old pine trees on the property and sitting at the lookout staring across the view of Richmond, Windsor and on to Sydney. Often the view would be blocked by a thick fog and as a child I believed that if I stepped off I would be able to walk on them – as the day went on, the fog would steadily lift until you could walk through it and then it would be gone – until next time. This is all gone now – the property closed and overgrown and the old home bulldozed to the ground. My biggest joy is to still visit as often as I can, climb the fence and sit amongst the trees, staring at the view – its then I can feel the old days welcoming me home!
Whispers belongs to the following groups:
"Exceptional Ekphrasis", All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Remember When, Something To Say and The Word TreeHear them whispering, telling me stories of long ago.
The wind brushes my cheek as it rustles through the branches of these magestic trees.
The ground crunches as I tread carefully over the pine needles that have lain here for many years -
And I strain to see through the misty clouds that blanket all below.
The whispering continues, it fills my mind with memories,
Oh wondrous memories of many happy days
And fills my thoughts with pictures of what I’ve seen before.
My body is wrapped like a cocoon,
Safe and secure in the knowledge of what I’m trying to understand -
Who were they, what were they – those who have gone before.
The clouds are lifting now and the sun is peeking through
And is warming my body while the air is becoming still.
I gaze again at wonder of the beauty there below
And I feel like a princess as I did many years ago.
Enchantment and wonder has filled me as it often did before
And I hear those familiar whisperings welcoming me to stay
To enjoy the wondrous beauty of this early dawn of day!

Thank you for reading my work and for enjoying it. I actually wrote it with the mental picture of my grandparents property in my mind and lived and dreamed it all … almost as if I was there … as I wrote this piece. I wrote it to add to the end of a DVD we put together for a big family reunion back in 2005.

Thank you Sonia for checking my written work out and commenting. This one was a special one written to go onto the end of a DVD we put together for a big family reunion (150 people turned up) back in 2005. I have to pull my finger out and organise the next one for 2010.
