Newcastle Baths - Newcastle NSW Australia by

Most photographers when in Newcastle always head for the baths perched on the edge of the ocean between Newcastle Beach & Nobbys, Construction of the baths commenced in 1910 and although the official opening didn’t happen until November 1922, historic records show it in use from 1912 onwards. Like many projects the beautiful art deco pavilion was put on hold until after World War 1. The pavilion recently underwent major restoration with it facade now looking like new although one part of the internal structure is still just a shell. The northern end of the baths that features the competition pool with starting blocks as shown in this image is protected from much of the inclement weather although recent high seas found the waves washing over the high wall there and totally flooding the whole pool area. The larger pool to the south of the competition pool is open to the elements creating fun and adventure for those who dare to challenge the waves that wash and spill into that area.

This image was taken with the Nikon D700, 28-300 mm lens, hand held.
