We had a fun walk around the huge display of hot rods, vintage, veteran and loving restored street cars at the M.A.D. (Motorists Appreciation Day) run by the Rickshaws Hot Rod & Kustom Car Club held at the old Nesca picnic grounds at Swansea in NSW Australia. This is where you get to kick back and dream of the beaut cars of the old days with real metal guards and heaps of chrome. Today they come in many colours that maybe the manufacturers of that era hadn’t even dreamed of using. A lot of spit and polish went into the many and varied vehicles on display. Maybe not too long ago, Phil & I were heavily involved in drag racing and we often displayed the race car on these days or the annual wool shed display weekend … fun times, a lot of hard work but a lot of satisfaction.
I think the drag racing era surfaced with a bang today when I laid eyes on this beauty … there is nothing like witnessing a blown engine on the track especially if it is running on nitro methane. This engine was in an immaculate car used on the burn out circuit … madness … sheer madness but fun no doubt!! I’m a firm believer in doing what the moment and money allows … our years of drag racing with live fondly with us forever … oh that reminds me … does anyone want to buy a 25 foot long rail, complete with engine, trailer and Ford F100 tow vehicle?
super charged, blower, engine, drag racing, burn out, motor racing, bev woodman, for sale

Now THAT’s an engine!! No computers or black boxes, just a straight out, honest engine that every mechanic from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s would just love to get their hands on! I can well imagine what a nostalgic day out this would have been for you both. Great stuff Bev.
Take care
Peter
Thanks Peter … there was something there for everyone today … and no matter what age or year … its great to see the younger kids still finding fun with these cars too. We found in our years of carburetters that there were good mechanics and bad … if you found a good one you stuck with him♥

Nice, very nice…definately brings back some memories!
Thanks Brad … it does bring back memories … strange though how the old interests resurface though when you see something like this. We started to see some hot rods on the road today and then followed some MAD signs … it was huge … the biggest display I’ve seen of all the old cars & hot rods♥

That’s one serious piece of Kit Bev. Nice Shot & your description is very interesting.
“there is nothing like witnessing a blown engine on the track especially if it is running on nitro methane.” +1 to that! I took one of my Daughters out to Eastern Creek a couple of years back (first trip to the Drags since the old Castlereagh days) There were a couple of Top Fuel Rails set to launch as we raced up to the Spectator Mound. WOW!!! when those things light up, the sound pressure waves totally blurred my vision & they were GORRN. I don’t think I saw any of it he he.
Thanks Ian … the top fuelers are something else to see. We started going to Castlereagh back in the 1970s before purchasing an old USA funny car in 1980 … we raced it under the name “Unpredictable” before changing the name to “Methanol Magic” … at some stage we changed the configuration to a T bucket because the old funny car body was too hard to handle and very heavy. When Castlereagh closed down we raced regularly interstate at Surfers Paradise (before it shut), Willowbank Qld, Heathcote in Vic, Canberra (our favourite track) and then Eastern Creek. We retired the TBucket and purchased a 25 ft rail running on methanol … a brilliant car. We then lost drag racing in both NSW & ACT before the new Eastern Creek track was built so decided to play around with photography instead. We still have both cars, trailer and F100 – they are now up for sale … a great era in our life♥

An excellent image Bev, can`t see you as a drag racer though.
Thank you Terry … I have always been car mad. We raced from 1980 through until 1998 – I was crew chief for my hubby and I raced the F100 when I could. I was also secretary of the local drag racing club and tried for years to get a local track, plus was secretary of the NSW Division of ANDRA for many years – Phil was Divisional Director for quite a few years too … so it was a busy time for us … now we spend our money on Photography … not quite as expensive and a lot more sedate.
