No words can describe “The Pinnacles” – situated three hours north of Perth in Western Australia. I had seen photos and watched TV programs, one where Billy Connolly ran naked through them … but to see them for myself was a wonderful experience. We spent a full day amongst them but looking back I do regret that we hadn’t stayed there longer to experiment with the different light. The local ranger encourages you to stay until sundown or to watch the moon rise. I was not prepared for the vastness of this area, the many different shapes, the sheer beauty that each one casts and the wonderful stillness that envelopes you as you wander amongst them. Like frozen ancient creatures they seem to watch over you welcoming you to their domain. They are regarded as one of Australia’s most unique landscapes, the limestone spiers rise eerily out of the sand, some several metres tall. The area is open to the public 24 hours a day and is located within the Nambung National Park (park fees apply). You can follow the walking trails or drive your vehicle through the designated track, a challenge in itself.
The Pinnacles Desert Discovery is well worth a visit where displays provide an insight into the natural processes that formed the amazing pinnacle structures.
We stayed at the nearby town of Cervantes in the local caravan park.

Great shot Bev. Looks like you found the biggest of the bunch. I’d love to visit this place.
Thanks Michael … they’re all shapes and sizes and all very interesting. If you do go (and you should) make sure you do the sunrise, sunset and moon rise but for night time you will need a torch as there are no lights to guide you back … if it was closer, I’d be back there tomorrow♥

Too beautiful Bev, makes me want to go back there tomorrow (mind you I was there over 10 years ago now)…
Thank you Sharon … let’s go!!! You would probably notice a difference with the roads and the Discovery Centre … its top class♥

Excellent photo Bev, that really does do the area full justice. I was last there about 3 years ago and work was in progress on the Desert Discovery building and the motel. With the new Indian Ocean Way it has reduced my travelling time from home to about an hour and a half, which makes it an easy day trip, or a day plus one night. I was wondering when you were going to start posting photos of this area! LOL
Take care
Peter
Thank you Peter … I took so many of this area that I have only just now been working through them. Its an incredible area and something everyone should see. I do wish we had stayed longer. The Desert Discovery building is briliant – no motel there though. Thank you for suggesting the Ocean Way as the road was brilliant♥

Lovely capture Bev, I hope to get there next year, and like you we will be looking for a caravan park. How far was it from Cervantes to the Pinnacles?
HI Ian .. and thank you for the comment. Definitely put this on your list. You can wander on foot all through the Pinnacles and if you’re vehicle is within the size limit (no large RVs) you can drive through them. Our van was just on the limit although found one tight spot. Cervantes is only a 10 minute drive on good road … the caravan was basic but adequate – we enjoyed our stay♥

Hi Bev everything you say is so right we were there too recently , wonder if same day?
Thank you Virginia … we were there on the 24th May … it has taken me a little while to wade through the many images I took that day♥

oh the beach road from up North is out of this world too, re park ,we just camped off the road in the bush somewhere! must think where,we were there around closing time so must have not been too far down the road.
Thanks Virginia … there would be plenty of spots along that road to pull off onto … this was our first couple of nights in the rental RV so we chose the van park … its a great spot and such beautiful scenery all up and down the coast♥
