Grevillia Robusta - The Silky Oak by

I was mesmerised by the intricate beauty of these flowers on a silky oak tree in my sister-in-law’s yard at Dungog at the weekend. Botanically known as the Grevillia Robusta it is the largest of the grevillia species and grows to be a huge tree, commonly known as the Silky Oak.

My sister-in-law is “Judy Woodman":http://www.redbubble.com/people/judy57 and is also on Red Bubble … please take the time to check her dinky di Aussie gallery.

I love the challenge of capturing what I see, admire and love. To share it with you is an added bonus. Photography to me is recording history. Please explore my galleries and enjoy♥

Good focus and macro Bev. Good shapes.

  • Thanks Sharon … I kicked myself I didn’t take the macro lens with me on Sunday … this was taken with the 18-270 mm zoom lens but it turned out OK … its an incredible flower♥

What an incredible natural abstract Bev and you’ve caught the feel of that intricacy so very well. This is a great, great shot, my dear friend – love its unique character!

  • Thank you Lianne for your comment and favourite. There are many varieties of grevillia and its an amazing flower. This one is a huge tree and looks incredible at the moment just covered in these magnificent bunches of flowers♥

Brillaint capture Bev … love the patterns and colours. I have got the redish one in my backyard and took a couple shots. I will upload soon, they are still in a queue :)

  • Thanks Andi … they are a magnificent flower like many of our native species. I should have had the macro with me for a better shot but made do with the zoom lens on the day♥

  • Thank you Jeff … this is really an intricate flower (like all grevillea flowers). This one is almost like someone hand made it. I’m pleased you liked it and so pleased you added it to your favourites.♥
