Going Cheap - Hill Ends NSW Australia by

138 views and a sale of two greeting cards 7/12/10

I think the majority of cars driven to the old gold mining town of Hill End in NSW Australia probably ended up in the old car graveyard. The trees and bushes have grown around and through many of them claiming them as their own forever more. Some had been burnt out due to past bushfires adding more colour to the already rusted chassis. This clump of (I think although I think the rear one maybe a Hillman) Morris Minors huddled together as if to guard against further decay … I loved the deep rust in all these cars, slightly different to others I have come across … I feel quite honoured to preserve them for all time in film (or is that pixels these days)!

I love the challenge of capturing what I see, admire and love. To share it with you is an added bonus. Photography to me is recording history. Please explore my galleries and enjoy♥

Wonderful work Bev! The front one is indeed a Morris Minor and the one behind it looks like an Austin A30 or A35. Can’t see enough of the one at the side.
    Peter

  • Thanks Peter for the ID of these … there was just about every make and model there … wonderful spot to find these old relics.

superb bev ..its a sad wee shot as well i bet these gave someone a lot of pleasure

  • Thanks Joak … it is sad to see them on the scrap heap. I know how hard it was to afford a car especially from this era and most people kept the same car forever. I couldn’t believe I found so many in one area all scattered throughout the bush … to me it was a great find!

  • Thanks Elle and you’re right … I can remember when a new model came out my dad would take us into town at night to look at them through the shop window … now they’re a dime a dozen!
