Ben Bullen NSW - Glimpse of Beauty by

The old railway station at Ben Bullen on the Mudgee Road in NSW Australia stands alone, isolated and vandalised. The building has great character and would be ideal for a rest stop for weary travellers. Most windows are gone or are damaged as is most of the building. I couldn’t help but feel the beauty of how it once may have looked and decided to attempt to capture its last cry for help! But I fear its all too late. This image portrays the beauty outside as if the building had a soul and was crying to get away from its desperate situation!

I love the challenge of capturing what I see, admire and love. To share it with you is an added bonus. Photography to me is recording history. Please explore my galleries and enjoy♥

This is a wonderful piece of work Bev that achieves exactly the effect you were after. VERY well done indeed. By the way, was it you who posted some photos of Hill End a week or two ago? There was quite a bit about it on SBS yesterday evening when Maggie Beer was searching for her ancestors.
    Take care

  • Thanks Peter for the comment and so pleased you could see what I was trying to achieve. We were in Hill End a week or so ago and yes I did see Maggie Beer last night – she’s connected to the Ackerman cottage there … its a great program and I never miss it♥

Great composition Bev. Love the outlook.

  • Thanks Anna … the windows were gone in this room but I was taken with the view from inside … I had to find some beauty out of this derelict spot!

hi bev, this both beautiful and very sad, this is where my mother grew up, my grandmother was the gatekeeper on the railcrossing here and the house used to be right on the line, my grandfather was a railwayman and worked the line for years, i have spent a lot of time out there and it has a great history
  • Hi Jay and thank you for stopping by to comment. I felt a strong need to stop at this spot as the old rail station looked so neglected but still beautiful. I was horrified to see it up close and disgusted that both the railway department and the local council could allow it to become like it is. I tried to find some beauty in the angles I used. My hubbie and I were only talking recently about the jobs that have disappeared on the railway, from the gatekeepers, to platform staff and tea rooms … a sad loss to our railway history – at least you witnessed its glory days♥
