This image was taken one sultry autumn night and features the jetty near the baths at Belmont on beautiful Lake Macquarie. I like to think this lake is Australia’s best kept secret although the lake itself is the largest coastal saltwater lake in Australia, over four times the size of Sydney Harbour and is 24 km long with 174 kms of foreshore, with what seems like unlimited beautiful bays and beaches.
It gives its name to the City of Lake Macquarie that joins the boundaries of the City of Newcastle, making the area a unique destination for both residents and tourists. The lake is bounded by he Pacific Ocean on the eastern side the Watagan Mountains to the west.
So come and visit, stay awhile and enjoy what the area has to offer … maybe you won’t want to leave.
