Coachwood Glen - Megalong Valley NSW by

This is a magic spot, very easy to get to and can be accessed on the road down to the Megalong Valley from Blackheath in the Blue Mountains National Park area of NSW Australia.

From the traffic lights in the centre of Blackheath, heading west, you turn left across the railway tracks then immediately left and right again. This road wanders steeply downhill through the most amazing scenery of ferns and lush green foliage and it is down this road to the left that you will find a very small car park and the entrance to the Coachwood Glen Nature Trail. The return trip is 600 metres with a few seats along the way. There are small waterfalls and a creek that runs through the lower area, from there you climb up and circle around and over another crossing of the same creek before heading back to the parking area. Its well worth tacking this onto your list of things to see in this magnificent area.

… and the same area during a previous trip

Wait … there’s more

Beautiful scene and photo Bev. Looks a great place for a picnic.

  • Thanks Sharon – its more a place to maybe sit and gather some thoughts – the ground is pretty uneven and damp but there are a couple of benches along the walk to sit and rest for awhile!♥

What a beautiful photo of a beautiful scene Bev. It looks sort of mystical, magical even – the sort of place where you would expect to see little gnomes perched on toadstools! LOL Viewing it larger really brings out the wonderful reflections and enables one to appreciate it all the more. Lovely piece of work. Take care, Peter

  • Thanks Peter. I took some waterfall shots there on a previous trip and they are further back in my gallery. This time I wasn’t happy with the waterfall images but I was very happy with a few similar to this one!♥

Nice Bev, makes me want to head to the Barringtons again. Great place for photos & time-out if you know what I mean

  • Thanks Michael and I do know what you mean. I was brought up crawling around spots like this and I always feels so at home around these scenes … I haven’t been up to Barrington for years … I must put that on my list!♥

Nice shot Bev. Looks like a lovely place. I was at Blackheath today on the Grand Canyon walk. Are you sure that’s a right turn & not a left over the train lines (heading west) ? I’ll check my maps.

  • Thanks for that correction Michael … I was aware I had typed that in and did intend to go back and alter it but got side tracked … will do it now. It would have been a perfect day up there today … I just love this area!♥

Lol .. I was imagining people getting lost doing a right hand turn. Then again, some of my best shots have come from taking a wrong turn !
It was very nice up at Blackheath today. I’m just dealing with some glare in my photos.

  • I’ll be looking out for the images from this trip Michael!♥

Excellent image Bev , well composed. I know this spot.
  • Thanks Terry … I’m so pleased you know the spot – it would be easy to drive by and miss it. I always recommend it to those who maybe can’t do the extreme walks … many areas are definitely not for the fit and hardy!♥

Bev my dear friend – this is simply outstanding. Incredibly beautiful and I see that in my absence that I’ve missed several equally beautiful images. I will have to rectify that immediately. You treatment is just gorgeous – the colors so rich and deep, the beautiful clarity and shimmer of that clear water. Just stunning!

  • Thank you sweet Lianne … this is a special place and oh so beautiful … you would love it! Thank you especially for the favourite – that means a lot to me! ♥
