Nobby's Lighthouse - Newcastle NSW Australia by

1095 Red Bubble views as of 4th April 2011

Just yet another one of my images of Nobby’s Lighthouse – this time taken from Horseshoe Beach, or better known as the dog’s beach. This spot is found within the harbour at Camp Shortland and is a legal beach for dog’s to enjoy. Its often a fun afternoon watching man’s friend frolic and enjoy the open spaces and water here.

This image is “as is” and has not been maniplulated. I used the Nikon D80, 120-400 mm lens, hand held on this occasion.

I love the challenge of capturing what I see, admire and love. To share it with you is an added bonus. Photography to me is recording history. Please explore my galleries and enjoy♥

Love this image Bev, I feel that the road up to the lighthouse adds a cozy feel since many of ours here on the east coast are in very remote (often on islands) So the have a rather stark feel about them.

  • Thanks Jade for the comment and the road does look inviting but unfortunately no one allowed past the gate at the bottom. The lighthouse is up for tender at present to develop it into a restaurant/accommodation spot so we’ll all have to be patient. Its a very historic site and a well known icon for us local Novacastrians. On the bottom left hand side of the lighthouse hill the walk continues out into the ocean on a huge breakwall that adds shelter to the harbour. The area where you can see people walking in the foreground was once open to the ocean and has been filled and built up over many years to join it to the mainland. The beach on the other side is Nobby’s Beach where many of my surf images are taken from and where the famed Pasha Balka coal tanker decided to run ashore a couple of years ago – luckily it was refloated and towed away!♥

I like the way you have taken time to give it balance with the driftwood.

  • Thanks Larry for the comment – I was trying to add something different to the image and I just had to try to get those magnificent clouds into the scene too – its always a challenge beckoning me to try again for something different!♥

Like the framing in the foreground, nice work Bev.

  • Thanks Kylie for the comment – there was a lot of driftwood on the beach that day and as I’m always looking for a new angle to shoot Nobby’s, I thought it was appropriate to add this in!♥

Beautiful image Bev!! What a position for a restaurant or similar!! *-)

  • Thanks Deb for the comment – there has been a plan and interested developer in the wings for ages now trying to develop the site as a restaurant and B&B but the red tape has been hindering him – at present its not open ot the public but hopefully sometime in the future!♥
