These two young boys were having the time of their life boogy board surfing on Nobbys Beach in Newcastle NSW Australia today (26/8/09). I sat for ages laughing at their antics and listening to their happy screams of joy – if only we could all be this carefree. It appears that one boy is laughing at the camera but I was too far away for him to have even known I was there! that’s the beauty of a zoom lens.

The image was taken mid afternoon with a perfect sky, using the Nikon D90, 18-270 mm Tamron lens, ISO 400, F11 with the lens fully wound out to 270.

If anyone knows these boys, please put them in touch with me as I would love to give them some of the images I took today. These boys have now been identified as Lachlan Griffiths and Jacob Jones – thanks to Darcy Walker who recognised them … I had the honour of dropping off copies of my work to Jake and I think I enjoyed the experience just as much as he did … keep enjoying yourself boys

I love the challenge of capturing what I see, admire and love. To share it with you is an added bonus. Photography to me is recording history. Please explore my galleries and enjoy♥

Ahh, boogy boarding is fun even at my age LOL! Great shot Bev!

  • Hi Eric and thanks for the comment – these two boys were having the time of their life and it can be seen on their faces in all the shots I took, I wish I could have taped their laughter.

Just a totally terrific shot Bev – you’ve caught the animation and delight just perfectly. Lovely color and detail too. Love this – and oh to be 12 again for just a moment like this! (No, I’d not want to go back and do over – lol)

  • Thanks Lianne – I snapped so many of these boys and a few captured the mood and fun perfectly, this is one of them. Its a long while since I have heard boys of this age having this much fun – it was great medicine.

A great action shot ! That’s only a pretty small wave, but people older than this could really ruin their back on that shore dumper.

  • Thanks James for the comment and the favourite. I worried about this same thing but as I watched them I realised the gutter was quite deep where they were and they seemed to be pretty experienced and confident. It was a lot of fun to watch.

Like this fun images, wish I could get my mates in the water instead of sitting around.

  • Thanks Warren for the cute comment – now these little guys would get all soggy if they went in to the water!

Love it Bev – don’t worry, you’ve captured their laughter :-))

  • Thanks Enivea – I could have zoomed in further with Photoshop but then I missed the wave action that added to their fun.

  • Thanks Jeannie – their laugher was very infectious and well worth just listening to it – the bonus was capturing what made them laugh.

Surfers and boogeyboarders, professionals or grommies, are all alike… set up a camera on the beach and they’re guaranteed to show off their stuff. Great image, Bev!

  • Wow! thanks Clark, I always appreciate feedback on this type of image from you. I was a fair way up the beach from these kids and zoomed in fully with the 270 mm lens but in a lot of the shots it appeared as though they were looking directly at me!! Coincidence I suppose but on editing it looked like they were posing … maybe you’re right and they were.

Excellent shot…looks like an interesting landing!

  • Thanks Woody – these two guys landed fine – the angle does look dangerous but I watched them for about half an hour and they were OK – they certainly had a great time.
