Rustic Door - Fred Ash Building, Newcastle NSWby Bev Woodman
676 views as of 3rd December 2010
This quaint timber door sat off to the side of the huge roller doors at the rear of the Fred Ash Building in Newcastle NSW. The signage declares that this building dates from 1855 and today sits idle waiting for someone to restore it to its former glory.
You do these old buildings so well Bev. Lovely shot mate
Its easy to photograph something you love and this one really appealed to me – thanks Julie!

Seems such an anomoly to see a small wooden door on this great stone building doesn’t it? What a great capture Bev – lovely textures and tones in all these historic shots!
Thanks Lianne – I think it probably was a delivery area. There was something written on the wooden door but I couldn’t bring the lettering out.
you obviouisly had fun this day…by the way, did you ever find a parking place, or did that become irrelevant and forgotten in the joy of what you discovered on the way? Each shot you are uploading here just gets better and better!!!
I adore the weathered old timers and rusted metal fashure (?), cracked wall and concealed brickwork.
colours and textures superbly captured….
I’m rapt. Utterly and increasing.
In fact I find this piece totally absorbing!!! Thank you for posting it Bev.
: )
Thank you Jan for the wonderful comment on this series. Its funny how you happen by and discover things. I always knew this building was there and have parked in that laneway many times but this time it just jumped out begging to be photographed … and of course I obliged. Most of the other building in this block were brought down after the 1989 earthquake so unfortunately no longer exist – all the more reason to photograph these beauties.
Such a great capture, Bev! A lot of history in your shot…
Thanks Dottie for the comment. I hope to get some more history on this building and post it soon. I couldn’t find anything much listed last night and went through heaps of books.
