Another image of the James Craig arriving in the Port of Newcastle NSW on 11th October 2008. Note the whole in the skyline to the right of the image where the Royal Newcastle Hospital once stood. This magnificent sailing ship was heading for the Throsby Wharf in preparation for the Newcastle Maritime Festival.
The James Craig was built in 1874 and served many roles all over the world from a cargo ship to a coal hulk. It is claimed that this ship is the “only 19th century tall ship that regularly takes passengers to sea”.
