Coal Ships Off Bar Beach NSW by

Newcastle is blessed with magnificent golden sand beaches and Bar Beach is just one of many, There’s excellent parking and easy access to the beach with a huge car park that overlooks the beach and further down towards Dixon Park Beach & Merewether Beach. This strip of beach is a haven for surfers and is busy in all weather, summer or winter. This shot is looking out over the Pacific Ocean with one of the many coal ships waiting off the port for loading.

wonderful bev that wave is great ….can just see you surfin through that tube!

  • I was never that good I’m afraid – My surfing days were short lived after I broke my nose while learning to surf. Never tried it again.

fantastic capture bev do you hang ten on a surfboard

  • Thanks Cazz – I left hanging ten to my boys who were mad surfers. As I said to Joak my surfing career was brief after an accident – from then on I was content to sunbake instead.

awesome capture. love the spray streaming from it!

  • Thanks Stephen for commenting – I had a couple similar but this one I liked because of the spray filtering the view to the coal ship

Beautiful Bev. I know when I was there in March my daughter’s couldn’t get over the amount of ships sitting offshore!

  • Thanks Raquel – we always have about 40 coal ships off shore waiting to load – I think they process about 6 each day but they still keep coming. During the storm last year we were lucky that only the one came ashore (the Pasha Bulka). Two others tried but luckily were able to head back out to sea – since then they have to sit further out than they did in the past.
