During our recent trip to Dunedoo and the Art Unlimited Exhibition we found ourselves taking the short drive (75 klms) further west to Dubbo. Here we explored the Dubbo Gaol and to give more meaning to our images we enlisted the modeling services of Phil Woodman. As Phil was already dressed the part I felt his presence in many of the gaol scenes just added some authenticity to the shot. He enjoyed himself too posing like this. He was actually sitting on this bench similar to how he is in this theme when a young boy about 4-5 came up to him and kept looking not sure if he was real or one of the many stuffed dummies in many of the cells. Phil said he was too afraid to move in case he frightened the young fellow so remaining sitting still until he walked away.
Dubbo Gaol is only a small facility that ceased operation in 1966 and to my amazement it is right in the middle of the main shopping area. I guess when it was built though it would more than likely have been isolated from the main town area.
